Lost Zombies

So we all love to sit around and talk about where we go for the next zombie outbreak:
`Lets go to Costco.`
`Lets go to Big 5 they have guns there!`
But stop and think for a minute. In the event of an emergency where people are being evacuated or under attack, EVERYONE is going to need supplies and weapons. This means that places like Walmart or Costco or even Liqour stores are going to be cleaned out.
Also, where would you hold up assuming you do have supplies? The High School? The police station? A store? Ohs ure, nobody else will think of that.
How about getting to a location? Streets? Freeways? Its not like there will be any traffic will there? And its not like the military wont be blocking roads or enforcing Marshal Law.
In the situation of infection, you will soon learn that the zombies will be the least of your troubles.
So What do you do?
Where do you get supplies?
Where are you gonna go?
How are you gonna get there?
Think about all the factors (besides zombies) that will hinder it.

Best plan is to have contacts. Not everyone has a stocked bomb shelter for the apocalypse, but we might know people who have what we need. set up a contact list of people ahead of time. Make calls quickly before cell phone networks got bogged down making your cell useless. set up alternate means of contact or a meeting place. At least some of the people on your list will hopefully make it to your destination. If anything it may at least give you hope in an outbreak for survival.
As for a meeting place i agree big stores like wal-mart would be overcrowded. I say if you know the right people ahead of time you might have what you need through your contacts. Meet at a brick/stucco home on the outskirts of town if you live in a city. You need somewhere you can meet but have the ability to escape quickly.
I've lived out to sea for 5 months of my life and have wondered if some kind of house boat would be a good final destination after picking up your crew. You could reinforce your boat to make simply climbing aboard difficult/impossible. Down side I live somewhere cold. Ice = sitting duck for zombies to find.
Key for my scenario to work is to have a group of people you trust. A closed cell of people who need no others might help you avoid the hassles of other mindless survivers who had no plan.

thats true, contacts are essential.
However, you have to keep in mind that when the shit hits the fan their chances for survival are as good as anyone elses. A meeting place is a good idea but if communications go down how would you know if anyone from your team is alive or not.
We all must have back-up plans, then back-up-back-ups, then back-up-back-up-back-ups. Out of it all you should get the minimum for yourself to survive alone if you need to. the common phrase `lookin out for number one`, although morbid, may be the best approach.
Also remember as Brooks says: NO PLACE IS SAFE, ONLY SAFER.

Oil derrick. In the Gulf of Mexico.
Clean the entire thing. Have a helicopter.

Realistically, I can do that.
The people I need to do that live with me.

thats an almost perfect plan. I see youve probably read the Guide. =-)
Atleast i hope to God you have....

No! The people I live with have though.

I have plans for almost any apocalypse.
Just to be safe.

where are you going to get food and fresh water without the supply-lines so vital to operating oil derricks?

derricks have water purifiers and you can get on a raft and go fishing XD

The derrick itself can fail completely for all I care.
It's just a platform out in the middle of the ocean that I need.
If I need food, I can just go get it.
If I need water, I hope I have the presence of mind to bring a generator.
And if I don't have a generator, I can always get one, or all the solar panels I have around my house.

Oil derricks only need the supply lines to export the oil. They don't need the stuff brought in, it's just MUCH cheaper to do that.

idk, im still unconvinced...how are you going to get fuel for the genny... how will you get diesel...ergo, if you can't run the genny how will you run the active water pumps that bring froth from the sea drinkable water...but i suppose solar pannels will do

... fish is ok, but there is really little nutritional value...unless you eat the ENTIRE animal (flesh, organs, bones and all), and thats just enough to survive, not to thrive (if you can catch fish at all)... maybe if you can bring in some hydroponics or greenhouse equipment to grow vegetables, fuel for the generators will still be a major issue

thats just one mans opinion
then you have the weather...idk, id rather not be on one during a hurricane

Fuel...I have enough solar panels to keep me going indefinitely. That includes repairs.
I have a solar generator, though it's not entirely reliable. Nothing breaks, it just fails to work sometimes.

Fish aren't a good food. Even if you eat the entire thing, you're still going to starve to death.
However, in a zombie outbreak this size, what happened to the Endangered Species Act? I'm sure I could preserve a whale, and I have the explosives to catch one...

As for weather...That's the one thing I can't control/plan on. Hopefully, have some place to go in case of a hurricane.
And that my pilot can fly in bad weather.

I took the clothes from the deceased guard, along with his weapon, a glock 19... my M4 was out, and 9mm is better then nothing. There was a lot of activity down in these corridors.

I walked for days with my buddy, Leo. He took this pic about 3 hours before he was dragged into an empty building and bitten. I killed all four zombies, but it was too late... he began to change and I had to put him down too.
