when choosing your weapons to battle the hords of the undead get something light weight, duriable, quiet and could kill a zombie in one or two hits,my choice(crowbar)is curved design makes it easy to grip, the shapened end makes a good tool to shove through the eye socket and it can help pry doors,or move heavy objects.

Maybe I'm trying to get medieval, but a good Ball mace is also an ideal tool. Steel implements can get caught on bone and even the slightest hesitation in movement could mean the end. While weapons are important, it is also necessary not only to arm yourself but take time to armor yourself as well. Boiled leather armor is low-tech, affordable and easy to make with simple patterns.
I gave it some more consideration and in terms of a straight up "smash that sucker in the rotting skull" weapon, the crowbar is more ideal because of it's versatility.

Since cars will be next to useless (clogged roadways) and I really don't want to negotiate a bicycle while firing my sidearm, I think I'll be going by foot. Foot means hike, and hike means "That pack with all the stuff I thought was necessary...just got very heavy" It seems best to try and combine as many things into one as possible to make movement easier...
Well put. I would like to have depots set up with gas and other essentials, get a four wheeler and have alternate routes leading to the same point, a well hidden and secluded place where I will have already stashed supplies...now if I can only win the lottery...
You hit it right on the head your"zombie plan" should be you earth quake plan you flood plan your snowed in for a week plan and even your my wifes not home for dinner and I can't open a can of soup plan (KFC) start witha simple 72 hour kit then make it complicated over time , also if your going to spread the surival gear over sevaral packs so you and your family can share the load make sure you inclued redundancies like fire and shelter.
I have actually already done this but there was one thing that didn't work out that well, bringing my lady with me. Her idea of camping invlolves room service, and we have a tent that more closely resembles a pavilion...

I doubt I'll bother to bring the camp stove and the 5 propane cannisters, the cooking utensils and the battery powered TV.

I have a small, two man (translate to one man with gear) hiking tent but it is brightly colored. If ZACH can see, he'll see me easy. If he can sense, he'll sense me anyway and if he can smell, well, all he's gonna smell is burning gunpowder or cold steel...

I have two friends that want to go on a shakedown run with our survival gear, so this will actually be better as a field test than camping with my lady.

Rogue 1
My brother has a Dragonfly, we used it camping a couple of years ago, very effective. I have used the Katadyn filters in the past, and they are very effective as well.

In terms of sleeping out in the open, depends on the situation. If I'm in transit and alone, I agree. If I'm not alone, there will be sentries posted and a secure location will be found so I suppose my concerns about the color may not be that well founded.
When choosing weapons, practicality, affordability, availability, and reliability are your primary concerns. The weapons you listed are A) Uncommon B) Expensive and C) High Maintinence, which is exactly the wrong things to be in a post apocalyptic survival scenario. Not only could you not find most of those guns ANYWHERE (Im an avid gun enthusiast and Ive only SEEN those guns once or twice) but parts and more importantly ammo would be practically unobtainable. You want weapons which favor reliability and ease of use because the biggest baddest gun on the planet wont do dick if its jammed or empty. I just found this site today, but as luck would have it I had already purchased and built 2 guns for just such an outbreak: A Norinco SKS and a Mossberg 500. Both guns are field strippable, tough as nails, extremely cheap and common, and have plentiful ammo. A freaking wal mart stocks 7.62, try finding whatever the hell ridiculous size rounds an FS2k takes. Heres some pics of my guns for your viewing pleasure:

don't you mean millions of sks type rifles?
The fs2k (sold online preorder only) is a .223.
or a 5.56X45 for those of you who prefer NATO ammo over American. It makes no real difference other than small performance changes.

And just so people will know what I have against the mossberg 500.
I'M TOO DAMN SMALL TO USE ONE!!!
I can use most rifles and some shotguns, but my arms are too short to use a full-size weapons easily.

Your weapon selections are very...robust? I don't think you (but the person that inherits your weapons might) will ever have to find spare parts for either.
Mossberg makes a 410 and a 20 gauge for home defense and are made for people who can't handle a larger gauge for what ever reason, and heavy shot or slugs in either will stop a zombie in its tracks
I can use large caliber/gauge weapons (I have several 12 gauge shotguns and a .50 (BMG) caliber rifle) I just can't use most firearms efficiently. The mossberg is a good example. My arms just aren't long enough.
I am an adult. My arms are never going to get any longer. Therefore, the majority of my weapons are either modified for me, or are youth models.
I can use any firearm. It's just hard.
I would suggest, if it's only to do with arm length, that you go to see a gunsmith/armorer and have some custom jobs made up if it's worth it to you.
I do. My uncle is a gunsmith and customizes firearms for me.
