Lost Zombies

Regarding the zombie apocalypse, I’ve had much time, experience with firearms and human postmortem forensic investigations to come to make the following statement: The Ruger 10/22 (Shoots rimfire 22 LR) should be the ultimate “standard” zombie apocalypse weapon for any army against the undead.

Okay, allow me to preface my discussion with my background. As I’ve stated in my profile I am a neuroscientist, however, specifically I work with postmortem human brain studying addiction, movement & memory disorders. In doing this I have had to work hand in hand with the forensic community, even assisting in numerous autopsies. Some of these autopsies involved trauma to the head from gunshots. Some of these head wounds have been from the 22LR. Interestingly, the rounds typically go in, but due to their reduced weight, yet high energy enter the skull but do not exit. Instead the projectiles bounce around the interior surface leading to a spinning “blender” like action on the brain. Parallel to this I have always been an avid firearm enthusiast/collector involved in reloading, instruction in combat pistol shooting, as well as longrange rifle marksmanship, hunting and gunsmithing. So what right? I am sure that there are many more qualified people than I who will read this blog and say “well I’ll bet I know more than this guy” and they may or may not be right, however, my point is that my experiences have lead me to the stated title of this blog. The Ruger 10/22 (Shoots rimfire 22 LR) should be the ultimate “standard” zombie apocalypse weapon for any army against the undead.
With the weapon pictured (stock unfolded, and on a rest) I am capable of 2 inch shot groups at 100 yds. Easily doing 5 shot ½ inch groups at 30 yds while standing and barrel steadied against a barrier. Simply put this means I can put 5 shots through the darks of eyeballs of a zombie without ever ruining the whites of the eyeball! Using the hypervelocity 22LR ammo one could easily penetrate a human forehead at 100 yds. Points to consider:

1) Weapon is super light/portable.
2) Zero recoil leading one to retarget more zombies faster as well as ease of use regardless of shooter’s stature.
3) Quieter with a lower “report” drawing less attention by others, living or dead. Also, more easy to fashion a silencer to making it even more quiet, however, requiring slower rounds to be almost completely silent.
4) Higher ammo capacity per person. One 500 round brick of 22LR is about 2”x7”x3” which and I can carry about 20 of these bricks in a backpack. This means 10,000 rounds! Try matching this with an M4 which uses 223REM/5.56Nato and you will need a bigger bag not to mention a strong back.
5) Anything but head shots are a waste.
6) Zachs beyond 100 yds are essentially ignorable, and if shooting from an elevated inaccessible (by Zach) it won’t matter. On the ground, one could run and gun if one needs to.
7) Ammo is cheaper to buy and therefore easier to stockpile.
8) Weapon system lasts longer due to the lighter charge of the cartridge, therefore less potential for break down, and spare parts replacement.
9) Weapon system/package less expensive to purchase for the zombie warrior than other systems. A new M4 is >$1, 000, or even SKS at ~$150, (but ammo is heavier and more expensive than 22LR).

Also, I say this owning and reloading for many firearms (I don’t want to say how many) ranging from 25ACP to 50BMG, therefore I know the advantages and disadvantages of the various weapon systems commonly used as Soldier-Standard. Well that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

con 22.s can, do, have fraged apon hitting a skull doing little damage. Mainly with the hallow points.
con in the case of zombies were brain trama is needed 22.s do not have the same force that most other rounds have. Bleeding out wont happen.
con see other post now think about that with a zombie closeing in on you bent to make you into a snack.
