'safe way to move around'
Not walking down the street singing.
Think a construction vehicle, like a bulldozer or a tracloader.
Get one with a cab on it, then seal the door. You can weld the door shut, and replace the glass with grates, or you can make your own grates with rebar (available at any home improvement store).
And if zombies are everywhere, then you do a little urban renewal. After you smash some buildings, there's suddenly going to be less zombies around.
That is not a bad idea at all but most construction vehicles are quite slow and loud so attracting zeds by the noise and they would eventually find away in.
It really depends on the situation. Most likely if a outbreak did occur everyone would just hop in there car and try to leave. If this is the case it would just be safer in the city. However if there arent that many cars on the road any more than usual that is, than by all means get in your car and get the hell outta there.
The city to start more recorces when the outbreak gets unmanagable move to the hills , with your many truck loads of gear canned food and you main squeeze , try to leave freak out girl and the guy whos really in love with your girlfriend , and try to bring someone who knows how to cook over a camp fire , man beans get old really quick , you have someone along who can make tortillas on a hot rock and make squirall taste good is worth having along even if they can't shoot .
We have been talking about this in the NYC outbreak. The Lansing part of the mid-michigan outbreak is about holding and clearing a section of city. The key is a defensible position and plenty of people willing to work together and hold it.
The other key is in the north the zombies will freeze and that will give time for foraging and the improvement of location.
I'd probably just stay where I was. if I was in the country, I'm gonna stay there. If in the city, I may wait awhile for the "OMG EVACUATE!!!1111one" to calm down (a few days or so) and then possibly move out depending on how many zombies are around the area and how aware they are of my presence.
i live in chattanooga. its a medium sized city on the borders of Tn Ga AL i think i would stay right here. supplys are plentiful and the people are more spread out than in a large city like atlanta or new york. plus the 3rd largest river in the country flows thru the city so water is not really an issue.
Dude, if it's a river, it's infected. All it would take is one dead zombie miles upriver and if your town gets it's water from the river, the whole place could get infected without a single person getting bitten.
