Zombies have always been cool. Maybe you've just now opened doors to see that others like them too. Most any "Creature" has a following. Look at the bat-shit-crazy vampire lovers out there. I'm a bit more partial to Lycans then Vamps.

Another thing you might notice is that the name Zombies tends to be code for some people too. In my opinion there were a lot of zeds walking Wall Street for the last couple weeks. They were noisy and blocking traffic and the police had to pepper spray a few. And did they wail or what?

I don't think its a "Johnny-come-lately" craze or fad. It has become a little more mainstream then it was but Zombie films have always had a decent cult following.

I think that to be angry because something you love has gone mainstream (to some degree) is like being the star football player and suddenly realizing the whole school wants to watch you play.  Embrace it.  You already know more than the mainstream and you can put that knowledge to use in a way that will allow you to attract a woman (or whatever as the case may be, no offense intended).  Example:

 

Mainstream Guy:  "Did you see that new Romero Zombie film? It was like, awesome and stuff, I like the way the zombies, you know, like, ate that guy..."

 

Mainstream Girl:  "I haven't seen it yet, I get scared of zombie movies even though I know that they are on film, I just get so scared"

 

You: "There's nothing to be scared of, you just have to know about zombies."

 

Mainstream Girl:  "What can YOU, tell ME about Zombies?"

 

You:  "Well, for instance, did you know that Romero was really talking about how our capitalist society would eventually consume

itself and that is the basis for all three of his original films?"

 

Mainstream Girl:  "Really, that is very interesting"

 

Mainstream Guy:  "I'd just kill those zombies with fire"

 

You:  "Bad idea.  Zombies don't feel pain and it will take up to 10 minutes for fire to consume a human body to the point it is no longer able to function in an undead state so all you are doing is creating a walking torch, you are better off using a firearm at standoff distance or, if need be, a melee weapon at close range."

 

Mainstream Guy:  "I'd just use a rocket launcher"

 

You:  "Where are you going to find one of those you idiot, in the giant locker at the beginning and end of each new level?  This isn't a fucking video game we're talking about here, it's zombies...go show someone your jock strap..."

 

Mainstream Girl:  "You really do know a lot about zombies!"

 

You:  (Putting arm around Mainstream girl) "Wait until I explain about the reanimation process...it all begins with a bite, like this..."

xombies are mainstream, they have been since romero but even before him they were a pinpoint for horror, but i think that the real social and philosophical implications of a zombie epidemic s whats made it more apealing to ppl as a whole, other than us, the fact is the zombie apocolypse forces ppl to examine every social & stereotipycal norm they have ever had imposed on them and under that microscope we all fall apart, we all become our greatest hero, our evilest villain or everything else. the zombie apocolypse allowes us to simplify the world to its lowest common denominator and unites us all as either a survivor or the dead thats a sense of self we all should have, mainstream zombie-files are a good thing, make the dead see what side of the food chain they fall on hahaha
