Mode of transportation?
I have thought a lot on the issues about zombies, and have made up my mind on a lot... but lets say you decided not to hunker down, or that where you do plan to hunker down is very far away, what kind of vehicle would you choose to get there? Or if you plan to become nomadic, what vehicle then? And lets be realistic, no tanks, attack helecoptors, or hover craft, etc. Also, lets just pretend zombies are real, think of accesability. How much damage would you have to do to an armored car before you could actually steal it and get it going?
I try to ballance speed, durability, gas milage, diesel vs gasoline, off road capability, zombie proofness, how quickly one could get it going, escape, etc, what have you.
Any thoughts on this? I really am stumped here.

Really... I would opt for the bicycle. A good mountain bike.
Why?
-Wide availibiltiy
-No refueling
-Easy maintainence
-Swift and easy to manuver around abandoned vichicles
-Silent
-Off road ability
-Also it's the only vichicle i can think of that you can pick up and carry if the terrain gets too rough.
All I need, I should be able to carry on my back any way. Only draw back for the bike comes with Runner Zombies, but that's a small precentage, and the bike has more pros then cons.
If availible I would opt for an electric bike, again fairly silent, and if can give you a boost when your tired, and it is recharged by pedal power.
Hopefuly I wont be going too far. But if you're alone I think it's your best bet. Or at least have one tied to your car or in the back of your truck if you're with a group.

I agree..a nice light well made mountain bikes the way to go..for all the reasons cemetary listed. I am a big believer in hunkering down in a good fortress though and only going out on supply missions..I don't believe there's a Zombie free land out there and if we're talking about the viral walking dead(you know where you have to get bitten or otherwise infected to become one) and not the other end of days Zombies where everyone who dies wakes up then you'd only really have to hunker down for say...ten years or so.Then they will have rotted off to the point of being nothing more than dust and bones. So long as your not too close to a nuclear power plant then you really have nothing to worry about. On the search for a good fortress though I'd have to agree with the Bicycle.

zombies only starved in the 28 days,weeks, later movies because they werent zombies just infected they need food and water. zombies according to folk lore, only need a functioning brain to operate and the brain is the last thing to decompose. and it takes awhile for them all to do so. he means ten years or so because the ones that were infected towards the end of the intial infection.

I took the clothes from the deceased guard, along with his weapon, a glock 19... my M4 was out, and 9mm is better then nothing. There was a lot of activity down in these corridors.
eventually I found veggitation again, and a bunker that led to this base... where I was statoned before the outbreak.
I walked for days with my buddy, Leo. He took this pic about 3 hours before he was dragged into an empty building and bitten. I killed all four zombies, but it was too late... he began to change and I had to put him down too.
