As soon as the news of a zombie outbreak reaches me the first thing I'm going to do is go home, on my way I will be contacting one of my friends Matt, he will contact 5 more pre-determined people and they will all meet at his house and once they're together they will come to my house, which is on the outskirts of the city and as far away from downtown as you can get. while they come to me I will go around my neighbourhood stores gathering supplies, such as: food, water, first aid kits, and a few melee weapons. Once I have all that in my truck I'm going to drive back to my house and start stockpiling my supplies on the second floor.

I will begin to barricade the house once the supplies are stockpiled, locking all doors and windows, pushing chairs and couches and other furniture up against the places where they could possibly break in. Matt and the others will have reached me by this point and together we will get everyone upstairs and destroy the staircase, using a 70ft. long ladder I keep in the garage to get down and back up again, the ladder can also be pulled upstairs if the zombies start breaking in. our group of 7 will wait out the crisis at my house, sleeping in turns and constantly keeping watch for any developments.

If the outbreak runs on longer than we think our supplies can hold out we will abandon my house and get to the maximum security prison in Kingston, which is not too far from Ottawa, and use the prison as our fortress. in the amount of time we spent in my barricaded house I expect the prisoners will be released in the crisis. I have personally visited this prison (as a student) and have seen all the security measures they have in place, I think with a group of 7 we'll be able to hold off the zombies for quite a while since we'll have access to all their supplies (armory, kitchen, medical facilities, etc).

If the outbreak reaches a point where everything is over run and for whatever reason we have to abandon the prison we'll head north west to the northern tip of the rocky mountain range, there we'll be able to hunt and fish to feed ourselves, streams and rivers will give us water and we'll head far enough north that the zombies will freeze if they try to follow us. We will be able to live there until the outbreak can be dealt with.

Plan sounds good overall, but when was the last time you travelled from Ottawa to Kingston?  Thats 2 to 3 hours on a good day with the roads blocked with zeds, cars and god knows what else you can count on not being able to take the 401 or 413.  If you want to make it to Kingston, plan on using the canals and lakes, avoid the roads.

As for heading to the Rockies...  seriously do you really think you could make it that far its a 3 day drive?  I would aim for something a little closer, say northern Quebec.  Of course if that is were you are headed in the long term why not just head there right off the hop?

Oh yeah I know how bad the roads will be in an outbreak, I knew I wouldn't be driving there right from the beginning. The canals idea I hadn't considered though I'll keep that one in mind for when the time comes.

The trek to the rockies will be very long and dangerous and so I'd like to avoid going there altogether if I can, it's more of a last resort for the case that the military can't suppress the outbreak. I chose the rockies because they provide a lot of natural barriers to keeps out zed's and deter raiders and bandits, something I don't see me getting in northern Quebec, also the higher altitudes will be colder and zombies will be less likely to make it that far without freezing.
