I've had to think of a couple different scenarios. Will I be at work, Home or out of the area?
If I'm at work my goal is to get home. I'm a cop so I should know early what is gong on. I'm an investigator so I likely won't be first on the scene. Because of my job I'll be expected to stay and deal with the problem at hand. There is no staying when there is nothing left to stay for. I'll know when to pull the ripcord and won't hesitate to do it. I'll take as many with me as I can. I'll try to use my own vehicle if possible. My commuter car is an 09 Dodge Caliber. It is a hatchback so it can hold equipment and/or people. It's small and decent on gas but it is maneuverable and has enough torque for it's size. I keep a bug out bag and my AR-15 in the back. If it comes down to it I'll take a dump truck from the road crew. If the highways are clogged I have a friend on the city limits with horses, I'll get there one way or another. I've discussed bug out plans with him. He and his family are coming to my place anyway. As I've said in other forums, I'll be loading up on armament as I go. I know where the distributor for local mom and pop gun shops is located. It looks like every other warehouse in the industrial park. If you don't know what you're looking at you won't know what you've got. Everyone else will be crowding the Bass Pro Shops and Gander Mountain and such. I'll be at the regional distributor. I likely won't need a lot of ammo. I'll have my share of what is left in the armory. I will try to communicate with family and friends as long as the cellular phones are working. I don't expect them to be up for long. They'll clog the system first and then the feds will shut down communication.
Once I'm outside of the city/burbs it's about 30 miles to my place. Walking at 5 miles per hour I make it in 6 to 7 hours. Horseback I make it a little sooner going cross country. Timing depends on a lot of things. The goal is to force march if possible. My weaponry will be out and in plain view. Physical obstacles will be enough without having to deal with fools. If you don't want to be victimized then don't look like a victim. My out of area plan will be just about the same. The amount of time, who is with me and mode of travel may differ.
Once I get home I will start the home plan. The home plan consists of reinforcing doors, covering and blocking first floor windows, putting up the emergency wind turbine and reinforcing livestock fencing. I'll cave as much fuel as I can for generator use. I have my own horses and will use them for transport if possible. If I have to get somewhere fast I can do it just as quickly on my ATV as I can in a car or pick up. This area has more trails through the woods and tractor trails then surface roads. I have my stash of food and water. The generator will be for emergency only. I will turn off all but necessary electric items. The water pump and outdoor furnace can run off the emergency wind turbine batteries. Deep Cycle Marine batteries.
I'll add to this as I make more decisions.
