it sounds to me as if the person betrayed the writer in some way while dating/being married to them. I found it while tagging directions to safe houses.

Harsh. As with most content, it's the story behind the item that really intrigues me. Were I doing a walkthrough in an abandoned house and found this single dollar bill, the story that might have been would haunt me worse than seeing a simple corpse.

I really wonder what this person did to the writer to warrant swearing off love (something that sets us apart from the walkers), a pledge of no further spending (in a time when money has less value than spit), and a hope of not just death, but that the writer gets to brutally kill his/her ex, guilt-free.

Hardcore to say the least.
