I am part-owner in a welding shop and making these (from either steel or aluminum) would not be too hard. I could craft them with custom specs such as length and (to some degree) appearance. If anyone is interested, feel free to send me a message and we can work something out.

I think that the thing I appreciate most about the Mace is the simplicity of it. Despite my assertion that I do not have the "skills" to make one myself, the Mace is really a simple weapon to make seeing as it is little more than a metal club and has been in use since one monkey slapped another with something more than his own tail...

To answer the question...primarily because this one looks nicer than anything I could make...I was thinking about knitting one but I believe strongly that such a device would not work very well made from yarn...essentially I do not possess the requisite skills to create it and this mace is so nice and shiny....
