It's only medium carbon though. Considering the quality of a handmade Japanese katana, I'm sure the carbon content of your sword is much higher, therefore stronger. As for the handle of the sword, it's actually half inch thick adhesive-backed padding wrapped in electrical tape, then wrapped in a couple of shoelaces I had lying around. This is just a temporary handle until I find some decent hardwood to make a good handle from.

It look sharp as hell. I have a battle ready katana myself, hand made in japan. They use katanas now for the whaling industry, for choping fins and tails.Its also carbon steel. so I know how long the egde last on these babies before you have to put a stone to them.Nice job on the handle bro. Leather or strap?

Actually, it isn't folded at all. It's medium carbon tungsten steel that I shaped, hardened, and tempered using various tools and a homemade forge. It's fairly heavy and long, but that's how I like my swords. I've decided to call it a Barbarian Katana haha.
