Project HAYABUSA
Background
While it had different aims than Project: MJOLNIR, both programs resulted in powerful battle armor that boasted energy shields. HAYABUSA's project was to develop a self-contained power armor, and the project eventually culminated in the development of the Hayabusa Armor, which was developed by RKD on Earth in 2536 and apparently accepted by the UNSC Ordnance Committee.

The Hayabusa Armor's advanced materials decreased its weighty bulk by one-third and aesthetically is Japanese in design, with a Samurai-like design and spiked shoulder pauldrons (commonly referred to as s'ode' for the shoulder armor, and kabuto for the helmet in more correct terminology for Japanese armor of the era). The most likely reason for the aesthetic features of the armor might be to inspire fear into enemy soldiers. It was available for use by the SPARTAN-II supersoldiers, although its field deployment appeared to be limited. Also, the headpiece is very similar to the main character of Ninja Gaiden, Ryu, who was from the Hayabusa ninja clan.

Trivia
The Armor has been nicknamed 'Ninja' armor by many, which is ironic, however, as it in fact resembles the armor of Samurai, the dreaded enemies of Ninjas.
Hayabusa is Japanese for "peregrine falcon," and is also the name for an unmanned space mission conducted by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency set to return to Earth in 2010.
Project HAYABUSA may have been the Japanese counterpart to Reach's and Doctor Catherine Halsey's Project MJOLNIR.
HAYABUSA is one of the most Photogenic Helmets in many screenshots.
The armor was in fact created by Team Ninja themselves in return for their use in DOA 4 of Nicole.
Chris abandoned his armor after an encounter with OMD (or whatever he calls himself now), and instead donned an upgraded ODST Helmet, and Body Suit.

The Body Suit has cooling and heating units that masks the infrared signature of the wearer, as well as creating a comfortable environment. The body armor, boots and gloves are fully encased and airtight, making them operable in a vacuum for up to fifteen minutes when equipped with an additional oxygen tank. The helmet has encrypted communications gear and a HUD, along with thermal and motion detectors giving the user an advantage over the standard Marines.

Advantages
The Body Suit is lightweight and offers protection in hard vacuum. It supplies more armor protection than standard Marine armor, and contains a enhanced communications suite. Along with the protection and communications gear, the Body Suit provides increased agility and maneuverability not afforded by standard Marine Armor. The Body Suit's helmet can withstand several head shots from head shot capable weapons. The armor's black coloring gives wearers an advantage at night and in space, as well as providing a psychological advantage over foes.

Disadvantages
Unfortunately, the suit's general complexity leads to complications. Over prolonged periods of time the suit will become very uncomfortable to wear, and it is tricky to repair in the field. It's effectiveness is decreased in desert or arctic environments where harsh light and sparsity of dark colors make its black camouflage useless. It is more suited for nighttime, urban, and forest operations, which fortunately the ODSTs have seen plenty of.

*Chris utilized the ODST Body Suit and Helmet, due to the cheap cost of the armor, which he had little currency at the time, spent on surgery afterward, due to the "joker smile" seen afterwards due to shrapnel from a grenade.
