Survival is easy, being the only one left is hard

I've caught the cold and the flu every year since as far back as I can remember. The following is from the remains of a journal found in a post outbreak zone, only portions relating to the outbreak have been entered. The residence the journal was found in was strongly fortified, but one of the entrances had shown signs of being forcibly torn down from the outside. Though there were no signs of the author of the journal within the residence, it is doubtful of his survival..
