I can hear them downstairs.



In our rush to secure the building, we thought it wisest to move everything useful upstairs, then seal off the stairwells. That way, we reasoned, we wouldn't have to secure the dozens of windows on the first floor. A good plan, a solid plan.

I had heard of the outbreak, of a superflu that had affected so many people but I have to tell you; I lied to myself and told myself that everything would be fine.
