I am well-experienced with my pickaxe and crowbar. My katana, not so much, but it doesn't take experience to kill a zombie, only a swift blow through the head.

E-tools are designed to take a beating as well, plus they're far more compact (they fold into a pouch that's about 8x8" or 6x6"...I'm not sure which, I didn't measure).
