I have pieced together a list of what anybody who is travelling during the apocalypse should have.  This list is based off of backpacking sites, the zombie survival guide, and personal experiences.…Continue

Shotguns, zombie killing machines or extra weight?

Started this discussion. Last reply by Valentin Vasquez May 12, 2011. 176 Replies

One weapon that almost everyone has an opinion on is shotguns.  Max Brooks wrote in The Zombie Survival Guide that they are not as great as everyone thinks they are.  While many people consider them…Continue

"hows about through a forest? easy to not be seen there, espeically if you wear camo. If you hold still and are downwind, the zed wont see you. Also, seeing as I live in Maine, ill just ride my bike up to Canada where my aunt lives in a secluded log…"

"quite simple-get a mountain bike, some extra chains, and a mini pump. Stuff it in your backback, then ride the bike everywhere. Easy to use, silent, can go through forests, easily swerve around zed and cars, and also, if you ride it fast enough, can…"

"100n rps is nothing more like 600 rpm anyway a zombie with a broken spine still can bite but you don't have to worry about it chasing you.  The only reason why not to use full auto is that it burns through ammo."

"but if you miss the head and hit a zombie in the leg or lower body with an ak it wont get back up which means watch you feet but that zombie is basically no longer a threat."

About Me...
I used to live in Australia, in a suburb that was hit hard by zombies. Me and my friends held our own on the roof of my house, and would occasionally kill zombies with rocks to the head. My most traumatic experience was when they piled up until two got onto the roof. I took one out by stabbing in the eye with my crowbar, and got the other one by bashing its brains in. After this we moved to America assuming it was safer. It wasn't. Ever since I have taught the importance of zombie survival. I have read Max Brooks' book and found them helpful.

The Journey

"Ok, time for a break," Ted, our unofficial leader, announced when we reached an open clearing with woods to one side and a cliff on the other. He lay down his pack and left his AK-47 an the grass next to him. Finally we had been traveling for hours and by now I felt half dead.

I pulled my turkey sandwich out from my bag and began to eat, silently. None of us had the energy to talk, except Mark. Of course. It seemed like he had been raised to do this. Even Ted who was like…

Heroes

There I was surrounded by more than 15 zombies in A&P. I only had one round left in my 9mm, and I finally decided what too do with it. As my sweaty hand tightened around the trigger, and I could feel the cold barrel against my ear, only one thing was on my mind. Failure. I should have listened to Jack, he told me, "The grocery store isn't safe, don't go Pete," and me, who had never before been without food had ignored him and went in anyway. After all we had been through, killing zombies…
