How goddamn fitting that this whole mess started so close to Halloween. Despite the fact that it wasn't very long ago, it feels like years since I lived anything even remotely resembling a normal life.

Just a month after I began my freshman year of high school, and I had already established a reputation there. Not a particularly bad one, mind, at least in my opinion. I was well-known for constantly interjecting. Like all the time. They actually took to calling it…

First off, let me be completely realistic: we're all going to die. That's not the bleak, pessimistic comment it sounds like, which is strange because I am often described as a bleak pessimist. What I'm saying is, death is inevitable, but some of us can postpone it long enough to die peacefully in our beds of old age or organ failure.

And then some of us get torn apart and eaten by walking corpses.

I plan on avoiding the latter.
