Most of us have read both or one of Max Brooks books. Zombie survival guide, or World War Z. Both books are good, and highly recommended. The Zombie survival guide can be used for a fall of society, or Katrina type of incident. Read it. One think you should know that is don't count on anyone to save your ass. Especially the government. Take the steps to prepare, for real. Otherwise, just have fun. Take care.
