Zombie-Attack Science NY Times

Posted on December 10, 2009 at 11:00am 2 Comments

Epidemiologists today worry a lot about swine flu. But earlier this year, Philip Munz got interested in a more devastating possibility: an outbreak of zombies. A graduate student at Carleton University in Ottawa, he was watching a lot of movies about the undead and realized that zombification could be regarded as a classic paradigm of infectious spread: people get bitten by zombies, after which they turn into zombies themselves and start biting others. Ezekiel and His Zombie Army

Ezekiel 37: 1-14

1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"

4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones… Continue

One woman was shocked to find that her deceased mother had "voted." Although within the report he quoted an official from Connecticut who assured that no dead person actually voted and every case was a matter of clerical error and not voter fraud.

We can expect more of those isolated incidents to make the national… Continue

'Cellborg' Humidity Gauge First Bacterial Cyborg

Posted on May 19, 2008 at 9:59am 2 Comments

Chemists at the University of Nebraska have created a humidity gauge by actually 'assimilating' living bacteria into an electronic circuit. This appears to be the first instance in which a living cell becomes a fixed part of the structure of an electronic device.

('Cellborg' - first bacterial cyborg)

Ravi Saraf and student Vikas Berry made their device from a standard silicon chip inlaid with gold electrodes. First they added a… Continue
