L. Barr on the Northern California Outbreak: First Post

So here we are. I never thought I'd be spending New Year's Eve like this; hulled up in an abandoned radio station. That's not to say that is was totally abandoned when we got here...at least, not if you count the nonliving.

I want to start by giving a message to anyone who may be reading from back in my hometown: I told you so. I've known for years about the impending outbreak, and now that it's here, I have people looking to me for what to do.

I'm not crazy. I never was.… Continue

That Damn Grandfather Clock.....

Chimed Midnight.....the dropplets of spatter from her jugular... rolled down the glass in a languid manner. Her ear was at the base of the huge time piece....small tags off tissue started to crust to the carved bear at the the top of the clock....why did she not give me the Monchichi when I asked her? What a way to start 2009,ehhh... oh... well...

Day 50

Its been 50 Days since the Infection took hold here. Things are getting grim, well grim-er. Im almost out of food, water is good. Power is holding, but heat is out. Its the middle of winter. The weather isnt my only consern at this point in time. They are becoming more numerous. Ive taken out atleast five, just today! I snapped a few pictures with a camera I lifted from a house near the park, about three blocks away. I encountered the first one when I was crossing the park headed home. It was… Continue

Zombies confirmed

Day 3: I went to church and found that things were still fairly normal. However, when I got home and turned on the news, there was a breaking story coming in. The CSI (who lived in Henrietta, a 30 min drive to the north) had become sick and “deranged” over-night. He had consumed his son and bitten his wife before stumbling out into the night, the first zombie that was unaccounted for. The hospital had closed its doors and the media was being denied entry. The feds had shown up in the middle of… Continue

left behind.

this is something we came across the other night. this happens a lot. there are four of us. we had left brannon at the apartment after the group vote. he didnt want to go.

we never got to the "camp"

craig and wade are lost. hopefully hiding like we are, but mostlikely dead.

its become easy to get desensitized to losing someone you know. craig was just a friend of wades but still. i dunno.

we wanted to contact brannon, see if he… Continue

what i'd do in a zombie outbreak

my favorite zombie movie was Dawn of the Dead and i loved the idea of a zombie that ran instead of walked like a stupid moron. my take on them is that zombies are cool and it's cooler to shoot them in the head with a shotgun!

now, if i were in a mall (where every zombie movie takes place pretty much) i'd go to sporting goods and get a few golf clubs. i'd also go to a gun store and pack all the guns and ammo i could to a safe place and hold out in the food court all day. then i'd sleep on… Continue

Ice and Misfortune

I said I would keep reporting anything I heard. So far, I have hear, well, nothing. The city is dead. I and my dog Griz seem to be the only two living creatures in the greater Spokane Area. Cell reception finally crapped out, power and most importantly heat are still working. Im guessing the system is automated. Phones are down, and water is still running for the most part. Ive been relying on my neighbors stock pile of bottle water for a few days. Snow works in a pinch, but its to damn cold. I… Continue

News Bulletins

Day 2: This was the day I saw the report. My dad was watching the news while I was eating lunch. I did consider the possibility of zombies at that moment, but then reason kicked in and I put the thought aside. It would continue to nag at the back of my mind for the rest of the day. This led me to watch the news later that night to make sure that nothing else was going on. In the news they returned to the story, since they now could report the admission of both of the cops to the hospital due to… Continue

Sweat and Blood Pt.2

I finally found the cabin. It was a lantern light that I saw from the hill. I ran so far. All for nothing. There was a faimly that was in the cabin. Was, a faimly. I have to confess something. I was bitten. I was bit on the leg by a little girl. She came from nowhere. When I realized what happened it was too late. The faimly inside were all turned. It was a mother and father and two little boys. They are locked in the back bedroom. There are zombies everywhere outside. The doors and windows are… Continue

It's all down hill from here: Each other is all we have.

After a short rest I rose to look over the railing of the tree house. Below a couple more deadies had joined the two that had chased me into the backyard. With no way up into the tree, it was clear that I had the upper hand. I knew that I couldn't reach them with the machete so I was stuck using a pistol. I was pretty sure that the first shot would attract even more, but what the hell, it's not like there was anything else I could do. These things were the only obstacle blocking me from… Continue

How it happend.

I have been hold up in my house for 2 days all the windows borded up and the doors locked. They know im in here. Its a realy weird thing when you see them clawing threough a wood fence and not feeling a thing. Some of them have scraped and clawed so much that they are down to bone tips. My food supply is fine and the water is good i even have power still. The one thing i dont have is a gun.

There is a Bi-Mart about a block away from here ,and im pritty sure there would be a hunting rifel… Continue

It's all down hill from here: And they said it was suicide...

My feet pounded against the pavement as I sprinted into the neighbors yard. I slowed my pace to a mere tiptoe as I crept to the back of the house. Police cruiser, fire engine, and ambulance sirens could be heard in the distance. Accompanied by multiple bursts of automatic gunfire. Hopefully that would attract the zombies away from me. As I poked my head around the corner I could see a shadowy figure standing, back to me, in front of a bush. "Shit." I uttered almost inaudibly. I've seen… Continue

It's all down hill from here: The Beginning

The TV fills the room with spasms of light as I flipped through the channels. Each one the same as the last. Nothing but news, clearly something important if all normal shows have been over-run by each news team trying to fill me in on the "latest national security update". As I let out a sigh of relief I threw the remote to the ground and humor the network ratings by tuning in. I mean it's not like I had a choice, right? A young woman's voice shoots into the room. "No one knows exactly what… Continue

Reaching the Facility Part 2

The researcher coughed as the smell of animal shit reached his nose, wafting off his shoe. The cars engine grumbled as if to say it was tired.

"C'mon just a few more miles" he was growing tense, being out here this late made him paranoid.

The stench from the samples he collected made his stomach churn its contents. Never had he wanted so badly to be home with his wife.Slowly he pulled up to a large grey building, its monotic tructure and even windows made him want to run. It started… Continue

The scene part 1

Blood painted the forest floor as the creature tore at the animal, the poor animals carnal screams of pain shattered through the night like glass shards on a piece of silk. Slowly it drowned in its own blood, gurgling it slunk to the ground beneath it, its pride and life stripped from it in a matter of minutes.

"ugh" muttered an older man as he scrambled through the underbrush on the forest floor. He had landed his foot in a huge pile of some kind of animal shit. The man… Continue

The 19th Dynasty

The first document of the living dead was back in japan in the year 1806. It was documented by a man named Chang Lo, a spy for the Chow dynasty. He was appointed by the great emperor Chow himself. Because Chang was the best swords men in all of Japan. But on the 18th of June, his skill was put to the test. In the dead of night one of emperor Chows messangers came with news of a curse that was set upon the peolpe of eastern Japan, he said that the curse turned the skin grey, and that fallen… Continue

The hospital

I don't know why I'm writing this. I'm as good as dead, really. It's just my boyfriend Zachary and me now, stranded in this hospital room, surrounded by terrible monsters. I can hear them just outside, moaning and howling and shuffling along. I can smell them, too; an overpowering scent of death and decay. I don't know what we're going to do. There's a window, but we're on the third floor. That's a long ways down to just jump. I don't want to think about that right now, though. Sun’s setting,… Continue
