I am Legend was a novel, not a play... just saying. Everything else is right though so don't think I'm trying to jump all over you here, eh? ;) 

There have been three filmed versions of the book, starting with 1964's Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price, which is my favorite of the filmed versions. Then Omega Man and finally the Will Smith turd. None compare with the book though...

The book is fantastic. Really the first time an author ever tried to use science intead of mysticism or paranormal activity to explain Vampires.

as for the omega man that's a remake of the original i am legend based on the Richard Matheson play of the same name. in which case they are vampires. interestingly enough Romero the godfather of zombie as we know it today has always admitted that he ripped off night of the living dead for Matheson's i am legend. which explains the correlation between the zombie and the vampire and why lately we've been seeing cross over. vampire with zombie like traits and zombies with vampire like traits. .
