Maybe you could have a central character who acts as a sort of link e.g. Skot first saw a zombie on 20th September, then cut away to user videos of their first zombie encounters. Then back to Skot at his first safehouse - show user vids/photos of their safehouses and so on. Using blogs will be difficult. Maybe shorten them and use them as radio broadcasts? And like M says, storyboard them?

First, I'd like to thank you, Skot, for addressing these issues. Second, I'd like to make a few comments/suggestions.
1. Distribution: In regards to the distribution of the movie, I believe that the "give it away for free" plan of action will fail to have the desired effect of spreading throughout the world. I also believe that we should not just submit it to film festivals and hope that someone with money takes an interest in it. As you said Skot, its the ideal situation and the dream of most film makers, but it is a long shot. I believe that we should not only submit the film to festivals, but also take it directly to potential distributors/producers.
2. In regards to the use of written submissions, I agree with M.
3. I was thinking that we could have a photo/video montage of the faces of survivors at the end of the movie.

you could make it like a documentary on ww2 how they will have historians and even participants of the war speak about it and show pictures and video clips that are relevant to what is being said going along the timeline

yeah the blogs weren't mentioned and that could be really cool.some blogs alone could be turned into their own movies.though most you might have to shorten.

YES Damian, forgot to mention that. We plan to use music from members.

For incorporating the 'user submitted writings' you could do voiceovers over photos or video relevant to the writing, you could start a group that works to recreate/create the relevant photos or videos to the creative writing you wish to use if you've got as far as deciding that. Because most of the writings aren't just hey look zombies, they have landscapes and people and whatnot so yeah, just saying.
