Death is such sweet sorrow. (trying to stay to my original story notes, if your lost, dont worry)

Some smartass had spray painted that along an over pass, bodies laying in heaps under it.

"What....what happened?" Asked a man behind Thomas, his eyes shifting from the words to the bodies.

"Hell if i know, madness is the only fact of this age." Thomas answered back, gripping the shaft of Nordic that hung on his belt.

His little band-o-survivors had grown, not to his pleasure. They were all targets, the bigger the group, the more they smelled of food. Thomas always stood away from them, not bothering to learn names or hear their stories. His mission wasnt to make friends, it was to find his family. He yearned to hold his wife again. All he had left was his weaponry and pictures. The clacking of claws alerted him to the approach of Deigo, grumbling as he plopped a batch of dead rabbits at his feet. A smile crept across Thomas's face... as long as he had Deigo, they would be well fed between the two of them.

...

The fire cackled, branches turning to ash, just as the world had. Deigo sighed, his head resting on Thomas's leg, the bones of rabbits laying next to the both of them.Thomas stared into the fire, his eyes flashing turquoise in the flame. His eyes flicked over to the survivors, huddled with their sleeping bags and tents. They were all doomed and they didnt even know it. Thomas knew their good luck couldnt last forever. It was still miles to the army outpost, even then they didnt know if it would be manned. Thomas looked back to the fire, his mind wandering to thoughts of his wife. He had found a letter shoved into a tree knot, one of hundreds in that knot, and it had been from her. She was with a convoy traveling to the main army base located in the north east, right down the main high ways. It just so happened that while traveling, people started following him, and soon it grew into the little party he had now. 19 souls following him, because they had no other choice. Follow the scary dude with the axes, or become an appetizer for shamblers.

A scream pierced the sky, Thomas flying to his feet, the fire spitting sparks and Deigo sprinting down, teeth flashing in the fire light. Thomas drew The Nordic and raced down into the survivor camp, ears perked for the reason behind the scream.
"OH DEAR CHRIST GET HIM OFF OF ME!!" He heard, turning a corner to see a man, gripping the shirt of a woman, who as most was screaming at the top of her lungs. The man had turned, bandages showing under his ripped shirt. An old bite mark. He told the fools to check for bites. Scratches didnt matter, the poison was in their teeth.

"OH DEAR GOD SOMEONE PLE-." Her scream died in her throat, a bright flash slicing through the air. Thomas stood behind the man, his axe covered in brain and gore, held waist high as it came out of the swing. The man gurgled, his tongue twitching, the top half of his head completely torn from his body, spinal cord and tubes poking out like rebar out of old concrete. The turned man fell to his knees, squirting a last stream of blood before the body slumped to the ground, not to rise again. The woman stood in horror, sticky brain matter stuck to her face, a little gibblet hung from her quivering bottom lip. Thomas shook his axe clean of the viscera, grunting with digust.

"You are all going to die, unless use your fucking heads."

With that, he turned his back, moving back to his fire. He sat down to the flames, washing the blood off his axe.
