Misguided.

Today should be just another day with more death, and it would be had I not encountered the first human I've come across in months. Her name is Sarah, and she is infected. I found her huddled in the closet of an abandoned building on the outskirts of town, just waiting. Her body is already overheating, in just a few short hours she will be one of them, a zombie.

She's quiet and scared, tied to the chair in what used to be a livingroom, and all I can see is her value to me. She's very thin, no doubt starved half to death on her own. It's sort of a miracle she lasted so long. She's pretty too, big brown eyes and a button nose above perfect pink lips all smeared with dried mud, blood and who knows what else, but she's still pretty.

"You're dying Sarah,"I begin, "But I can help you, if you want."  I have a way with words I was always told, should have been a lawyer or something. She just looks at me and nods, she understands whats going on, and while she's scared she knows it's for the best.

"I'm going to untie you from the chair, but I'm not going to undo your hands or feet, so dont try to stand, you'll fall."

She nods and the way she looks at me is unsettling, she looks a bit familiar, as if I'd seen her before.

"How old are you?"

"Thirteen." she whimpers, with a single tear trailing her cheek, "Promise it wont hurt."

"I...promise." That relieved look in her eyes, there for just a split second, makes me miss my humanity.

The plan is simple: Sarah has volunteered to be bait, she will lure the zombies out and I will finish them. She's very petite, small face and frame, perfect for the harness. I will drop her off by the edge of the Main Street Cemetery and drive to the top of Chapel Hill to watch for the perfect moment.

I can see slow movement from my perch as they begin to smell her, more when they begin to feel her warmth. There are a few Runners headed towards her, but I dont think she's seen them yet. Suddenly a scream pierces the air and they go crazy as a zombie bites her. She panics and tries to run only to be held down by a dozen hands as more zombies flock to the scene, about twenty total. The promise rings hard in my ears, but I need her to attract as many as she can. I wait for the perfect moment to do it, the one right after she stops screaming, to push the button.

The blast is beautiful, the explosed life; priceless.
