Things Get Weirder

I haven't written in a while, but circumstances sorta prevented that. Basically, on the way back from Radioshack (picked clean), we got stopped by the cops! They had us all step out of the car and questioned us about any suspicious activity that had happened or any attacks we might've experienced. None of us had, but it was really unsettling -- between those cops and the newscasters I keep seeing telling us all about the supposed "gang warfare" sweeping the county, I've never seen so many freaked-out authority figures. Something big is going on here.

So naturally, I turned to the Internet. It turns out that a lot of places around the country have been experiencing this "gang activity" (in the words of those newscasters... and a suspiciously low number of reporters in the field...). That sounds pretty unlikely to me -- so somebody has been coordinating the stories that we keep hearing from the police and our nightly news. Could our government really be hiding something that big from us? With all the recent political turmoil and mudslinging, somehow it's easier to believe than to doubt.

Of course, I did run across other... theories, if you can call them that, online. Groups of people are claiming that this has nothing to do with gangs at all. Plausible enough there, but the explanation they propose is even weirder -- they claim that the attackers are reanimated corpses, come back to life to feast on the flesh of the living. I can't quite believe it, but a whole bunch of people do, and they've got sites with proof (or so they say), updates, and even whole wikis devoted to destroying the corpses.

My friend Alex thinks this too. He's staying here tonight, and he went and got some wood to board up the doors and windows. It's just like a damn hurricane. It's all a little too Plan 9 for me, but whatever makes him happy -- any barricades will stop crazed gang members just as well as the walking dead (even if one is way more probable than the other).

Alex just left to get food and other supplies for us. Even though I'm not sold on the zombies idea, it's a little creepy with him gone -- I mean, anything could happen. He left me this book to read, The Zombie Survival Guide. I guess I could read it... what else is there to do?
