my journal of of the events that followed

23 August 2008
The day started out like any other day, got up from bed turned on the tv, and started to get ready for work. I remember thinking how much working third shift irks me, however on this particular day it probably saved my life. The following in my story. I will write my diary and story here until the power gives out and i can no longer write.

To start a little about me, since this is my first page in the journal. I am a private security officer working at Dayton power plan, I usually work work third shift there. The plague started in the morning as far as i can tell, the local news when i heard when at work was that some rioting in Dayton had started and made it's way the the hospitals. The reporter on the news informed people to stay in doors, he said that they would be safe there. My supervisor told us to lock down the entire building and to go home, since they called for the police to take over for us. when i arrived back at my place around 2:30ish things were pretty bad. i locked my door on my second floor apartment and ready my meager weapons, mostly melee weapons. and tried to get some sleep with all the screaming outside and sounds of people in pain, i can do more when i am fully rested to help them.

24 August 2008
I woke up today and things have been getting worse. The news is still on and the reporters are still calling it "rioting." I started storing more water, and preparing to my humble little apartment into the best defensible structure i can make it, which isn't that great. there are some blood stains outside on the ground but no bodies things are going to get really bad, i'm debating if i should try to get some more ammunition of my handgun before the stores run out, or get looted, maybe it would be better to just stay in here and wait and see how bad it gets, either way i only have about 2 weeks worth of food, so logic over sense, i decide to venture out in the dangerous outside. very few people were outside. I wasn't as bad as in the inner city where all the tv reports were coming from, a few people running around, but i knew things would get really bad really soon. I thought i had one day, maybe less to get everything i needed before it would be extremely parellish to even be out side.

On the bright side today, my hamster had little pups, so i got a few pounds of extra bedding and food for them allong with somethings i needed in addition to ammo and food. One of them ran right past me chasing some guy, he looked so freaked out, he didn't even notice when i neutralized the threat that was chasing him, he just looked at me and ran off even more freaked out. I wonder if he ever made it to where he was going.

My building was almost complete vacant when i returned a few hours later, most of the people moved out who had somewhere else to go, i can't help but wonder if they are in fact the smart ones. I guess i could look around when I'm get low on supplies to see what they left behind, i usually do not condone doing that sort of stuff, but if they don't return by then, i don't think that they ever will. Thats all my thoughts for today, i am getting tired, power still working, cell phone still working, radio still working, still have a car, and of coarse i have internet capabilities, and along with all the mondain things that most people take for granted still working or here, I'm sure that in time things will begin to fall out of the working category, and i will keep a list of all that i do not have anymore.

25 August 2008

Today was worse than i thought it would be. The infection spread a lot faster than anyone could have predicted. The national guard tried to barricade everyone who was in the city to keep them from spreading it but it failed in all cities and now it's almost everywhere. I gave sanctuary to this girl who i was hitting on, but within hours i could tell that i had made a mistake, she was not infected but... she kept rambling on about God this, and God that... It's going to be long time existing here. There is a lot of screaming outside i tried saving as many as i could be it soon became futile with the amount of people that were in trouble i became tired, and almost got almost got zecked myself. I don't think that the power will hold up. when the carnage dies down in a few days, i'm going to see about finding place to get away, somewhere safe.
