I was just walking my Dobermann she-dog Laika in the early evening to unwind from my working day. Like always I took the right turn at the end of the cemetery. The old chap was pulling on the leash like crazy when we arrived at the big lawn behind it. "Off you go!" I called out to her and let the dog of the leash to chase the birds I recognized in the distance. And off she went...
Laika ran up and across a hill until she left my line of sight. Then a furious barking echoed across the lawn. I started running and whistling for her but she wouldn't stop or return. Then a piercing squealing that became a muffled whimpering let me freeze in shock.
After taking a deep breath I decided to cross the hill to look after her.
Laika was still breathing when I saw two kids kneeling in front of her. First I didn't understand the scene. Then I saw one of these rotten brats pulling out the dog's bowels with its bare hands. My sudden upchucking got their attention and they turned away from the dying animal. Their piercing observant look reminded me of a predator about to jump upon its prey and I knew the dog was just a snack compared to me. As they rose I just knocked them over to look for something useful as a weapon. Finally, after sprinting for about 200 meters I reached a house where I found a folding shovel sticking in the ground of its garden. Just about to turn around for the kids on the hill which shambled down pretty slowly I heard a most terrifying roar from across the fence of the cemetery...
