Introduction:
The Fallen World is my account as a survivor of the most horrific event in all of history. When the undead rise from victims of a plague and utterly destroy society and throwing the delicate balance of world order down into complete chaos. What I say in this series of biographies is true, they just haven't happened yet. So enjoy and comment, any suggestions for next week's chapter is welcome.
Part 1 - Rise of The Dead
The glow of the TV projects it's phosphorous light onto my face and the bare wall behind me like a man-made aurora borealis. For two days neither my eyes or ears left it's glow or the news caster's voice. The Plague they call it, or Casper's Death since those who die rise again. I never believed Zombies could exist, but try to convince me other wise now. It started small, as all disasters do deniable, hidden under the DOD's smoke and mirrors. But the military couldn't hide it, it grew out of control and went beyond the CDC's quarantine of the small new york town. I try to remember it's name as I study the latest report of sightings. Massachusetts, that was fast i think to myself as I grab a cup-of-noodle and finish it.
I lived in Garden Grove, California a long way from the east coast but the fear ripple reached my little suburb nestled between LA and Disneyland, two bad places to be if the plague shows up on this side of the continent. Stores tailoring in survival or military surplus are packed, grocery and convenient stores can barely keep non-parishible foods stocked. I went to Barnes & Noble and got me two books, The Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z both by Max Brooks. Brooks is considered the authority on zombies and how to survive them by the geeky and paranoid. So why not get some research from a guy who has theorized on what the retired flags and clueless biologist on CNN are baffled on, spewing there BS to look good for the camera.
Who are they fooling? I work in the movie business, and I know from my years in TV and with talent when the anchor is improving and BS-ing to fill time. No one knew what is going on, only that zombies are terrorizing the east coast and no one can stop them. I knew a guy who I will have a chance of surviving with, I'm meeting him tomorrow to go over some options and plan for the worse. Till then I watch the dozen or so cable news channels to piece any useful information from the BS and "Happy Talk".
The next morning I sat at Starbucks sipping on a mocha and listening to the radio coming through my ear-buds. The president declared the US a quarantine zone and halted all civilian air and sea traffic till they figure out how the damn thing spreads. Jonathan sat down across from me, "Hello so what are we going to do?" he said, Thats why I'm friends with him, always to the point and a brilliant mind. My key ally, "Well according to the guide, we need someplace fortified" I say as I gave The Zombie Survival Guide to him, "I have some contacts I can pull favors from" he answered me glancing through the book I gave him, "What type of place we need?" he asked. "The preferred place is a military base or a two story house. I'll prefer an old base, a house can't last to long without provisioning" We continued laying out strategies debating effectiveness of each till we got a plan.
Jonathan will pull his strings so that when the evacuation began, and we aren't zombies by then. To go with the troops and there families to where ever they send them. I will prepare to fortify my two story condo just in case an outbreak occurs in our area. He'll stay with me for a few months to help with the suppling and modifications to turn my home into a first class emergency shelter. We nulled over the fine details well into the night. We've got alot to do and not much time to do it. An outbreak was reported in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Mississippi.
