The dream.....
I woke up that morning, just like every other morning. Then I get the call from my bro telling me that it had happened and it was spreading fast. It was just like a movie; zombies where taking over. It hadn't completely invaded our town so we decided to go out to the grocery store and stock up. The grocery store was already beginning to board up their windows and had security at the entrances. We shopped and for some reason at this point I don't remember being frightened. It was just how I always wanted it. Then I saw Danny W. which was random cuz I haven't heard from him or even thought about that kid in a long while. So we chit-chatted for a minute and then Brian and I saw my boss. He told us that for safety measures we should gather our close family and head up to his estate by the ocean, where it would be safe and we could take off on the boat if necessary. So we did just that, we took our groceries and left the store and called up our immediate family (steph and ang too). Before heading over we gathered a few items for protection. Neither Brian nor I owned a gun so we took what we could, which were some fat ass knives/machetes. When we got onto the road to meet everyone at the estate we started to see the epidemic. They were slow moving but not totally dumb. Most people were off the roads but a few cars were left here and there. At that point it started to get a little more real and a lot scarier.
Once we finally reached the house we saw our entrance through a large side gate, the house was sort of perched upon a hillside where you are unable to drive right up to it. So we grabbed our bags with our machetes in hand, ready to kill anything that came close without hesitation (we had seen too many zombie movies to not be prepared for this). So we took off trying to be quiet as to not draw attention to ourselves. But that didn't seem to matter for too long. A couple undead seemed to have seen us and started to get close, we figured we should just kill them instead of trying to run because that would only draw them closer to the estate. So we did just that. We slashed em and when they were down on the grown we severed their heads. After that we made it up to the estate where I only remember speaking to Mikey, Steph, Angela, and two other guys who where related to my boss. At this point we learned a few things from the other people in the house about how serious the outbreak was. Apparently zombies dislike fire but were attracted to fluorescent light. So once daylight was gone we were only allowed candles for light. We also learned that the zombies where similar to the creatures from most movies; they could not really run or speak. They had only one instinct to feed. They also mainly traveled in packs. If you saw one zombie you were sure to see more. They also seemed to be attracted to larger cities that were highly populated. So it seemed that the estate was a good choice for now. Though it didn't last that way for long.
The effects seemed to be spreading quickly and we realized we did not have enough supplies or ammunition to last us very long. So we decided to take a small group to go out to get some more supplies. Only a few of us went. I believe it was me, brian, mikey, angela, and erin (one of the guys from the house). We had our guns now along with machetes for back up. It was pretty scary beyond the hill that the estate was on. It seemed that making it to a town where we could get all the supplies that we need would be impossible. Once we realized that, it seemed to be getting dark. Without the use of flash lights we would never make it safely back. I'm not sure how but Erin talked us into posting it up in a cemetery and just encircling ourselves in large bonfires to keep us safe. He told us that every zombie that would have come from the cemetery had more than likely already risen and left to find food. So we did just that. We were now chilling in cemetery with a few large bonfires around us for protection. We stayed there undisturbed for quite awhile however none of us went to sleep. Out of nowhere Erin reached into his backpack and pulled out something. It was a fluorescent stick that once u cracked it light fills the tubes. The bastard accidentally cracked it while taking it out and instantly it seemed they started to come. We were fucked and we knew we had to move. We decided the only thing we could do was get to the car that was parked at the bottom of the estate's hill. Then drive further into the hills to a more confined area. I remember being so tired but more frightened so we ran as fast as we could only firing our guns only when necessary to save bullets. We finally reached my car and we got in and took to the small highways in the hills. As the sun started to rise we could see where damage had hit certain towns and abandon cars where left all over the roads.
We kept driving through swarms of cars and clusters of zombies. They weren't able to keep up though I had to drive slowly to avoid hitting any other cars that were left on the roads. We weren't able to drive much longer before my car ran out of gas. Luckily it was in a place that was not swarmed with zombies. We got out and head higher into the hills as fast and as quietly as we could. We eventually reach a tiny community of a few old Victorian style homes that appeared to be completely untouched by the undead. There we met two young boys and their father, along with their German Sheppard. They told us the rest of the community had left town and that if we wished to stay there we should start helping the boys gather the rest of the food from other homes and finish boarding up the house where we would stay. At this point we figured there was no sense in running, because where would we go? As far as we know the epidemic had spread almost everywhere and this was it. So we had all but finished working to secure the area when that damn dog started barking. It wouldn't stop and I remember feeling the worst type of panic come over me. All of us tried to stop the dog from barking but he wouldn't. We proceeded to leave the dog and enter the house. I remember feeling nervous and time flew by quickly and it wasn't long before the undead were sweepin' the streets of this town. After that everything got fuzzy and it was over.
