A Bad Day

Is this really happening? Is this happening right now in my small city (pop. 100,000) ?That’s what I kept asking myself as I drove thru the quickly deteareating streets,streets that used to have small children playing,people walking the streets after work chatting with neighbor and stranger alike, parks that were filled with families having picnics and playing baseball. It was ,but it would never be like that again,now it was filled with people crammed into stores trying to get supplies,long lines at the gas stations fighting to get gas for their car or truck,people were fighting for parking for parking spaces.How quickly we fall apart I thought.People that would let you cut in line at the grocery store when your hands were full were now fighting for batteries. Take away our common routine,our cell phones,our comfortable lives and we turned into a third world country.

The loud honking of a car horn brought me back to reality and I saw the light was green and drove away from the stoplight even though I couldn’t remember stopping there in the first place.WAKE UP,BE READY FOR ANYTHING I told myself outloud ,I usually don’t daydream when I’m driving but the day was so crazy already I couldn’t help it. That’s the first time I really saw one of them attack someone else, from my jeep he looked like a normal guy walking down the street until he saw a man coming out of a house when suddenly he just srarted to run towards the man who had his hands full of boxes he was about to load into his mini-van.He never saw it coming ,he was tackeled to the ground with a tackle that would have made any football coach proud.As soon as they fell to the ground he bit the man in the throat and ripped it open, blood poured out from his neck ,its dark maroon color a stark contrast to the pale gray color of his driveway.The thing I noticed most was that man getting eaten never made a sound, or even moved, his back was probably broken by the impact and hopefully he never felt himself getting eaten alive.HOLY SHIT was all I could say as I drove away. I knew this was a clusterfuck waiting to happen and I hoped my friends had gotten everything ready back at my place.We had to act quickly if we were going to live thru this.

As soon as I pulled onto my street I knew we didn’t have as much time as I wanted. Seven house’s away from mine a fire was raging ,police and firefighters were already there but weren’t trying to stop the fire.Three dead bodies were also on fire in the yard ,the disgusting smell of burning human hair was heavy in the air. I stopped and talked to Eric a cop I knew since we were teenagers and asked what the hell was going on , what he told me was very bad and I knew I had to get the plan into action right now.

I walked in my front door two minutes later and saw everything was ready.All three started to talk to me at once,but I just ignored them and told then what happened to Yuri.I knew Jose would take it hard .they were good friends.When I told them what Eric had told me they all took it hard.He said 911 had been called to the house down the street because the wife had been attacked by her husband,but by the time they got there the whole family was infected and had attacked the police.The whole family was killed and the house was set on fire by the police to try and stop any further spread of the infection.When I told them the rest they were shocked . Howie’s wife couldn’t believe it but it was true as far as I knew .The President had flown back to the U.S. and was recalling the military back to the states.Both east and west coast were under martial law and the rest of the country would soon follow.All the local,and state police had been drafted into the army and were under federal control and would only act on orders from the government. Military bases were being fortified and reinforced with extra personall.All commercial flights were cancelled ,only military planes were in the air now. All interstates entering or exiting a state were closed and roadblocks were getting set up.Travel in the state was still allowed but not recommened.When all the troops were back from overseas they would try to stop the infection with help from the C.D.C. and military doctors. I almost couldn’t believe it when I heard myself say it outloud, but I had known Eric for years and he had no reason to lie to me.

What does all this mean Jose asks me ,it means we are on our own.It means we have to look after each other and try and get thru this living nightmare I said.So what do we do first asks Howie ? We are moving TO THE CASTLE...
