I had been to this city several times in my former life. That is how I refer to what I will fondly remember as the pre-war years. I knew of the illegal gambling and legal prostitution from this region of the United States, by illegal gambling I mean the kind not found in casinos. The ones I am referring to involves living creatures. That was until the pandemic struck. When even with humanity on the brink of extinction we will always find a means of exploitation. I was part of a human rights organization tasked with helping the homeless population of both Reno and Carson City. We were filming a documentary on the sudden disappearance of 75% of the two cities homeless population. We had been making friends with the community, often times supplying food, shelter and amateurish first aid. We would make frequent stops by their usual spots, but soon we noticed their numbers dwindling. We knew of the super-flu and its many mutations at this point, but out here in the desert it had not hit like in the major cities of the west coast. We were questioning the locals and began to hear of black vans often times seen driving off with several of the homeless community. It was said that they seemed to go willingly with promises of food, booze or shelter. We were connected, we would have known if there was another group operating in the area. After checking our personal sources we turned to the local underground media. There had been rumblings of underground fight clubs involving humans. I had a local friend from Reno that was in the know, he said "with the epidemic getting worse and closer, the local authorities were not concerned with a few missing homeless people." What he told me next made me wanna throw up. He had ran into a few college student from UNLV that had been at Lake Tahoe for spring break. He said,"they were a couple of meat heads, that had made their way into one of these fight clubs through frat buddy of theirs." They told him what they saw was not homeless vs. homeless, but they were pitting them against the recently deceased from the newest strain of the super-flu. We had all starting hearing the rumors of the virus reanimating dead bodies, but had simply wrote it off as just that, rumor. He said that he would arrange a meeting with our friend Levi, who I had met while in Reno in my former life, he knew everything and everyone in both cities and would know if there was any truth to these stories. He met us at a roadside diner between the city and was planning on attending one of these said events that night. He then offered to take one of the group with him. He would smuggle in a camera and audio recorder and would release his findings on his blog and mass video download site, hoping that the mass media or at least the local authorities would take this seriously. I volunteered since I had been to area numerous times and knew several people, I wouldn't seem out of place or raise suspicion........this would be the last time I would see Levi alive. That was November 12, 2007.
