Chapter 1: Everybody Hurts.

He was out there searching, it was late evening, already it was getting dark. Dark heavy clouds covered the sky, the rain was heavy, the thunder rolled, and lightening streaked across the sky as if it was dancing amidst the clouds. Already the clothes he wore were drenched, he stopped walking and stood still listening for any other sound apart from the thunder, and the rain hitting the sodden ground. There in between the rolls of thunder it was that groan, he looked around, there he saw a dark figure in the distance, it was stumbling, and it staggered, he smiled and chuckled to himself. Another drunk lost, he thought.

He watched the figure inquisitively, he watched it stumble, the lightening flashed, it made it look like the figure was dancing while a strobe light went off in the back ground. The figure stopped and looked towards him, he stared back, every time the lightening flashed, it seemed the figure got closer. He stood his ground, and watched it more. It stopped, and stared at him, the lightening would reveal bits and pieces of the figure, occasionally he would see it’s face for a split second, or the figure arms, legs, or it’s torso. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a touch, and turned it on, it shone on the ground near the feet of this mysterious figure, he aimed the light at the figures feet, slowly aiming up the legs, revealing blood.

He stopped, and stared his hand beginning to shake, slowly going up towards the torso revealing more blood and ripped clothing, now his hand now trembling with fear, he didn’t want to see the face, while staring at the bloodied ripped torso, he heard that groan, that low guttural groan, that made you fear the dark more, his heart beating now faster, panicking while trembling in the place he stood, the light from the torch had made it to the face of the mysterious figure, blood dried and caked around its mouth, its neck up to its right ear and across its face to its mouth.

He recognised the person, it was his girlfriend, he was no longer chuckling to himself about the supposed drunk he thought it was, she stood there as if she was sniffing the air, growling and groaning, he stepped back slowly keeping the light on her face staring at her milky and murky eyes, watching blood dribble and seep from her mouth, she liftered her arms and started to shamble towards him. It was like she wanted to hug him, he knew that wasn’t the case, he continued to move backwards, the thunder and lightening continued, the rain fell harder, he could feel the fear from within himself growing, he didn’t want to die, or become one of these creatures.

As he move away from her, she got closer, he managed to corner himself between a garden wall, and a house, he looked for a way to escape, he panicked more, he felt the tears fall down his own face, he had no weapon, he had lost it previously, he prayed and pleaded for help, even though he wasn’t a religious person, he knew no one would come to help him, she stopped about 10 feet away, he looked at her, he took a deep breath and exhaled, then counted to 5. ‘One, two, three, four, five.’ He smiled and the fear had gone, he had stopped trembling, he took a deep breath, and exhaled again, smiled and closed his eyes, he heard her come towards him, he had accepted his end, she was almost near him when there was a loud noise. BANG! ….
