Its 21:39 central time and I am still at Latitude: 30.325264 Longitude: -89.183493 anchored just of f the coast of Long beach MS. I have been trying to get some sleep since the sun went down, but I keep hearing gunfire from somewhere on shore. Up until about 20 minutes ago I could see the street lights, houses and stores still had lights…now I am in total darkness as far as the eye can see, with the exception of what I believe to be New Orleans to my west, south west, I can only assume that we have lost power to the area. This is the second time in two weeks this has happened. I still see the occasional headlights of military and law enforcement vehicles but that’s it, I haven’t seen a civilian vehicle on the roads in almost three days.
It is so damn cold, this is truly unseasonably cold for this area, it got down to 25 degrees last night and I nearly froze my ass off. I have blankets and a small space heater, but I have to conserve the power since all I have to charge the battery is a few small solar panels. So for now I’ll just dress in layers and me and my dog will keep each other warm at night. Maddux is not real happy about the situation, she wants to run and play in her yard. She doesn’t understand that I just can’t go back there now. Not after having to put down my wife…I just don’t think I could stay in that house ever again.
I know in the next few days I will have to go back on shore and make my way to my house. if this cold weather keeps up I’m going to need more supplies to keep warm, and it won’t hurt to top off my food supply since it don’t look like this outbreak of the infection is going to be over as fast as they thought. Yeah, I’m dreading the fuck out of that, I’ll bet my house has been looted, but if I can get just a few more things I think ill be set. I didn’t plan on going back at all and if I wasn’t in such a hurry and thought a little bit I would have packed better and remembered my shortwave radio and ALL of my guns. So this will be the final trip. And if this thing does blow over and the world gets back to normal, ill just put the house on the market and keep sailing. But until that time I need to be making a plan, a plane to get the hell away from this area if they can’t keep the containment levels of infected low.
I just wish I could get more info on what’s going on in the world. All I have to get information from is the laptop that I hate using because of the power situation, and the boats VHF and AM, FM…all are short range except for the laptop, but since wireless communications are patchy at best, and the only way I can connect my computer is to tether it to my Blackberry it’s hard to get the bandwidth to get on the internet, I figure cellular communications will be the next to go anyway, and all I get from the AM and FM is that same damn message they have been running on a loop for the past week…So basically I’m fucked!
Also I guess it’s worth mentioning that from the time of my last blog post, I did see, one infected, a young female, could not have been more the twelve years old. She was milling about in the parking lot of the boat harbor. I watched her for about ten minutes, contemplating whether or not I should put her out of her misery. But before I could, she was dispatched swiftly by a patrolling guard unit. And that’s fine; I have enough demons I face every night when I close my eyes to sleep.
If anybody can give me any info on the Mobile AL and Pensacola FL areas I would be grateful since it seems to be the logical next move if I want to stay close to shore .
