“I don’t believe this” I said aloud

As I walked down the abandoned street I kept going over what just happened in my mind. Did I really just kill Angie? Obviously there was something really messed up going on. I walked down the street very aware of the darkness now pressing in on me from all sides. I was lucky enough to be on the industrial side of town and there didn’t seem to be many people around. I had quite a walk to get to my apartment but I figured it wouldn’t be a good idea to stop. Further down the street I walked and the night seemed ever more omniscient as I made progress up the road. For right now I was fine, but I had to get out of the factory district and into the suburbs to get home. As I made it to the end of the street, a moan pierced the night.

“what the fuck is that?” I whispered to myself

I looked into the distance when all the sudden two gray cold hands grabbed my throat from behind. Immediately I swung around to face my attacker and was startled to see he had no eyes and his cheek was torn open exposing his bloodstained teeth. I dropped to the ground to escape his grasp and rolled out of range. He shambled towards me with the pace of a sloth, slow but determined. Not knowing what to do I ran over to the rifle I had taken from the military man earlier and pointed it at the creature. I pulled the trigger and let out a volley of bullets that all struck the man in the chest. He dropped to the ground and laid still.

“that takes care of that” I said aloud

all of the sudden, as if in grand defiance to my claim the ghoul stood up to face me. I staggered back in shock as he once again started walking towards me with that determined shamble.

“this can’t be” I yelled “how the hell are you still alive?”

I pointed my rifle at him once more, this time aiming right between the beasts eyes and pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. I stared at the gun in disbelief, how could I be out of ammo now? The man was quickly closing the gap between us so as a last ditch effort I ran away down the street leaving the creature and my gun behind. Not more then a minute went by and I had lost him. I continued on my way home.

“ahhhh!” a scream broke the night in the distance.

I ran to find the source of the sound, shortly thereafter I came upon a grizzly scene. Several people were crowding around a spot on the ground and across from them a small man was being chased down by a number of others. I ran to his side and helped him up. He didn’t seem to be injured but was extremely shaken. I pulled him to the side and there lying on the ground was a 12 gauge Remington double barrel shotgun. I picked it up and to my relief it was loaded with 2 fresh shells. I pointed the gun at the crowd pursuing the man and now me. I let the first shot go only 10 feet from the pack and to my surprise not one figure dropped. The shot only slowed them down and now they were on me again.

“you have to shoot them in the head” said the small man behind me. “it’s the only way to stop them”

I raised the gun again and pointed it at the head of the crowd. I released the second shot and to my amazement every creature in the front of the pack dropped to the ground and stayed there. Now, I was out of shells and the idea came to me in an instant. I ran into the crowd, which now only consisted of 4 or 5 people and started clubbing their heads in with the butt of the shotgun. Blood splashed all over the street as I smashed the beasts heads in one by one. When the attack was finished I looked to the man behind me and to my horror I watched as the group of zombies that were feasting in the corner were now tearing him limb from limb. Each member of the gory dinner party grabbed an appendage and tore it away from the body like pulling the drumstick from a turkey. The mans screams filled the night if only for a second before another ghoul ripped his head from his body and sank his teeth into the bloody stump that was his neck. A momentary lapse in judgment made me yell out in disgust and horror. Just then every member of this dinner party from hell turned and fixed its gaze on me. I got up and ran in the other direction. I stopped and noticed that the first victim of these monsters was nothing more then a few body parts sitting in a pool of blood. Amongst all the blood and entrails I noticed a box and ran over to pick it up. To my luck the box was full of shotgun shells.

“no more running” I said “this ends here”

I quickly loaded the shotgun and sat waiting for the fiendish horde to get within lethal range. The first ghoul stepped into sight and almost as quickly I dropped him to the ground with a shot that obliterated his entire head. Following him several others came into view and with expert like precision I dropped them all in a matter of no time. I quickly turned and headed up the road I was no more then a couple of blocks from home and I could see the sun coming up on the horizon. I heard deep moans from all around me. I started to sweat as I had no idea what I was about to face. I turned down my street and came upon a terrible scene. A mass congregation of what had to be almost a hundred ghouls right outside my building. I checked my ammo reserve and to my despair I only had 3 shells left. I loaded 2 in the shotgun and made my way down the street. I slipped down an alley and went around to the back of my building. I could see the horde through the fence and in my haste I stumbled and went crashing through the fence and into the street. Immediately I saw every head turn towards me and the unholy congregation came upon me with great force. I got up and fired a shot into the crowd watching as several zombies fell to the ground. I ran to the front of the building and fired another shot, once again downing at least 3 of them. I fumbled for my keys and finally got the door open. I ran inside and slammed the door, barring it with a bench kept in the lobby. I made my way upstairs and suddenly from behind me a moan captured my attention. I turned and saw my neighbor john, pale as the moon and with a wound on his forearm that no blood spilled from.

“john, are you alright?” I asked

I received no answer but a low evil moan. I scrambled to load the shotgun with my last shell and in my haste dropped the round on the ground, it rolled past john and continued down the stairs. Thinking quickly I used the gun to shove john down the stairs and with an almighty crash he fell right through the stairs, destroying them completely. I looked down into the gaping hole and saw john lying motionless beneath a pile of rubble with a rail post stuck in his eye. I quietly made my way to my room and breathed a sigh of relief as I could now rest. Or so I thought.
