I threw myself into the body of Erica’s attacker, bringing him down to the ground. As I got up, I noticed his eyes, cold, white and dead. Flecks of blood hung from his lips, and pus seeped from a cut on his cheek. His head lolled lazily, I’d obviously startled him by rugby tackling him down to the ground, but he soon shuffled back up to his feet. His movements were slow and uncoordinated. His sinewy skin had almost a leathery look to it, and it was grey and ashen, long since dead. I pushed Erica behind me. I didn’t want this thing getting anywhere near her. It snarled, baring its teeth at me, it moved towards me, reaching out for me, grabbing at my clothes. Momentarily, I looked at the car, and saw a boy punching away at the back window, himself ablaze now with the car, but the fire did nothing to slow him down. I looked from the car to the man, or zombie as I now know it to be, and then to Ben. Whilst the creature had been fascinated with me, Ben had snuck behind. He kicked the back of the creature’s knees, sending it sprawling forwards. “Run!” he shouted, we all took off, heading back towards Edgbaston. We could hear screams coming from in front of us, and the zombie behind us let out a much louder mo
