During my research I have discovered that our greatest weapon against the undead is bacteria, the decay that eventually takes us all.
We must also remember that these creatures - and do not forget they are creatures. they cease to be human upon that last exhaltation of dying air - are in a constant state of pain. Within hours of reanimation they begin to suffer with rigor mortis... this stays with them for weeks, making movement awkward and agonizing.
During this time their lower extremities begin to swell as blood collects. In some of the extreme cases the skin has been know to split, tearing open under the internal pressure of the already dead bloodcells.
Muscles begin to atrophy, the body wasting away as the bacteria starts to devour the deceased flesh, tendons and muscle.
Open wounds and lessions quickly become infected, a breeding ground for the virus itself, as well as a home for fly larvae. We have seen examples of the undead filled with maggots, the dead flesh eaten away and the body nothing more than a pulsing hive. Yet even then the reanimated corpse will react to human flesh, still hungry for sustenance.
The virus does slow down the process of decay but it can not bring it to a halt.
All we have to do is wait...
