I remember it was a warm day, my brother and I had been flying rescue and attack missions for 4 days staright. We flew over zombie infested streets and pulled soldiers, cops and civilians off roofs of parking garages, and other buildings. We recived orders in flight to head to st johns hospital to evac a platoon of special force troops that had become trapped on the roof when the hospital had been overun with the dead.
We approched the helo pad and land one at a time to pick them up, the had the look of fear like i had never saw in a persons eyes before let alone special forces soldiers. God knows what they saw and heard in that place.
When we landed the sargent came up my door and said he had 12 men and one wounded. I asked [ Is you wounded man been bitten?] His reply no, but he needs to get to a mash unit for tretment the units medic lost most of his gear on the lower floors of the hospital, and damed if they were going to stop and pick stuff up on the way to the roof.
Just then a shot rang out as a trooper put one round in the wounded man head. He yelled he turned time to go! I never found out if the wounded soldier had turned or not. The surviveing members of the unit pilled into our two birds and we lifted off just as the roof door gave way and walking corpses came shambling out, the sounds of ar15's and the loud chatter of the mounted 60 cals on our choppers cut into the hord comeing out red bloches of blood splattered allover and infected body parts flew every direction.
Once in the air a call came over my cvc unit [ lone wolf this is soul hunter you copy?] Ya I copy , what on your mind? Dwight I lost all communication with [ATC air traffic control] Ya I know the whole fucking sytem is down and all the air waves are all quiet. Lets return to base and see if any body is still there. Ten four big bro, I am behinde you and a litte to your right.
as we approched the air base we could see a jet black c5 cargo transport on the tarmac with guards out on the flanks and its engines ideling. We landed and the special force unit off loaded and then proceded to load onto the c5 and then in a matter of minutes it was on the run way and in the air.
My brother mike just looked at me with a dumnfounded look on his face and said WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ALL ABOUT?
Damn if i know!
At that point we relized that the base was abandoned and all control of any kind was gone. We refuled armed ourselves with what was left climed abord our two birds and took of, and that was it as far we know that was the last operational base in the north west Washington area. Ever since then we have been on our own helo jumpiming from one place to another sometimes comeing across small groups of survivors and exchangeing infor and supplies when needed. We are available to help anyone still out there.
