Something is burning inside of me.
And it's not fear. Well, maybe a bit, but it is so
much stronger. Like anger, only I'm not really... mad at anything.
Only at those creatures outside, prowling around....
Holding that pump-action shotgun was the most amazing thing I have ever held
in my life...
And when it's un-dead body dropped, fire ran through my veins...

I left my house at six this morning, just as the sun began to peek through the hills.
Everything was foggy. It's gray hands grasped at my skin, making the hair
on my neck and arms stand straight up.
I quickly made my way through the town, ducking when I had to.
It felt like I was in a movie, to be honest.
Soon, the dull yellow, one-story house came into my view.
I took a deep breath. I was finally there. Now, all I had to do was ask for
some sort of weapon....
There was a deep grumble not far behind me. Instincts kicked in and my legs
brought me to the front steps of the house. I knocked frantically, yelling for someone
to open the door. No one replied. There was no time to mess around. My shoulder
clashed with the door once, flinging it open.
Huh, it was open. Who leaves their door open during a zombie outbreak? I thought.
But, it didn't matter. I slammed it behind me and locked every single freaking lock.
I don't know why, but it was just in case.
"Hello?" I called a couple of times, going around the corner of the kitchen.
Nothing. No sounds, no lights, no nothing. Just me in an abandoned house.
"Mr. Galevicious?" Once more, just to make sure. But, again, there was no reply.
If he had left, then he probably took all of his weapons with him. No one would go out there
without something. Fear came over me. I was locked in this house until I knew it was safe to
go back...
My feet led me to a closed door. Slowly, I pulled it open and peered in. There were
stairs leading down into a black pit. Inside my body, my stomach churned.
I felt like I was going to hurl. I took a step. Then another and another until I was
completely consumed by darkness. Where was the damn light?
CREEEAAAKKKK. Where was the fucking light?! My fingers fumbled around quickly.
I grasped a switch. Green tinted lights blinked to life, revealing the room to me.
It seemed almost like a military base of some sort.
From the corner of my eye, I saw a light flicker. Turning, I slowly made my way toward it.
Underneath it's twitching spectrum stood a giant metal cabinet.
Weapons.
I grasped for the handle and yanked open it's rusty doors.
I had found the lost treasure. I stared in awe and staring right back at me
were a dozen different guns.
For seconds, I tried to name them, hardly any came to my mind except
this one pump-action shotgun. This.
This is what I was going to use.
And it was calling for me.
My fingers grasped it tightly, it weighed nothing in my hand.
Now that I had my weapon of choice, I searched the room for ammunition.
When I came across some boxes of shells, I loaded my shot gun and
placed the rest around my waist with a belt.
A feeling of security floated around me. With that beautiful thing in my hands,
I almost felt unstoppable.
So, I couragiously climbed the once terrifying stairs back to the first floor.
As I headed for the door, I flung myself against a wall, back to being scared.
Music filled my ears....
Music?! My ipod... where was it?! Where the fuck was my ipod?! I kept screaming at myself,
but stopped remembering the music coming from my back pocket.
I pulled out my green phone, holding it to my ear.
"...Hello...?" There was heavy breathing on the other side.
"Gee? Are you there? Can you hear me? Please tell me this is you! Oh my god, please answer me."
I recognized the frantic voice.
"Hey, hey, Katja, calm down. Where are you? What's wrong?" Then came the sobbing.
"Please, Gee. Please come! I'm at home and Courtney is with me... sort of. Oh god, Gee. They bit her!" I couldn't comprehend the last few words through her sobs.
"Katja, listen to me. Stay put. I am going to make my way there, just stay calm."

And then she screamed.

Within seconds the door was unlocked and I was rushing down the empty street.
"KATJA?!" I shouted into the phone. No answer, but I could hear her in the background,
screaming and crying. "Stay there!" I demanded once more, sprinting down the
pavement.
It was to the point where the burning in my legs did not bother me any more.
I needed to get to Katja and Courtney. Something was wrong, they were in trouble.
It seemed to take forever, and there never seemed to be enough oxygen.
But, finally her house came into my view.
I rushed up to her steps, pounding on the door.
Screaming still, just hushed by the wood between us.
"Katja! Open up, it's Gee!"

There was a low grumble behind me once more.
I stood completely still and turned.

There was nothing more disgusting on Earth. Half of its face had
decayed and fallen off. Dried blood caked its face.
Obviously not its own.
Noticing that sparked a flame within me. It could have been the one that
bit Courtney.
The shotgun in my right hand was raised.
It knew what that meant, letting out a hell-raising shriek.

My hands began to shake. It was going to kill me... I'm going to die...
But, I bit those thoughts back. I had to get to Katja and Courtney.
I had to protect them.
And as soon as that ugly zombie bastard twitched its body in my direction
I pulled the trigger.
The shot took off a chunk of its shoulder.
And it kept coming at me.
As the space between us closed up, I took two more shots.
One clipped his neck and the other...
Well, let's just say the other half of its head is road kill.
After making sure it was... dead... again, I
knocked on the door again.

"Katja. Let me in. It's safe for now."
Her blue-green eyes peeked through the window of the door.
They were blood-shot. The door finally, slowly, creaked open.
I stepped in.
"Where's Courtney?"
Her head motioned to the living room.

I sit here now, with Courtney's head on my lap.
It keeps getting colder by the hour.
She can't die...
Not by the hands... teeth... of those pathetic excuses for the living dead.
This is not the way to go...
And she can't be one of those things.
I won't let it happen...

I've told Katja that we should just rest here for the night and then
we can go take Courtney to the hospital.
She isn't saying much. Just nodding and shaking her head...
This is effecting her more than me... her best friend is...
Augh, I can't even say it.

It's time for me to quit now, anyway.
I need energy for tomorrow.
