I count myself lucky that I'm still with the one I love. Samantha and I were into the idea of planning for a zombie apocalypse that would never come. Well, at least we were prepared physically. Mentally was another issue. The strain caused by seeing a friend or neighbor devour someone else was too much for me, and I went insane for a little while. Sammy took my loss of brain capability in stride and started "battening down the hatches" as we both called it. That meant pulling down the fire shutters in the house while I went bat-shit in the living room. I finally got said shit together and helped. It was heartbreaking watching people die outside, but what could we do? Letting them in would risk us getting infected.....I just wish I could erase the things I saw that day......But I digress. Sam and I had a rule: Neither of us leaves the house for at least three days. That would give things time to settle down from the initial panicked rush to get away from the danger HERE, unknowingly going straight into the danger THERE. We waited four days instead until the streets were relatively calm of human activity. That was when we went "shopping," our term for a scavenge run. We had no car, someone had tried to hotwire it to get away. It was better like that anyways. There was one of those Radio Flyer wagons sitting in someone's front yard, so I took it and told Sam to ride in it for fun. As strange as it may sound, it was important to do that. Keeping your spirits up in a Zpoc is very important. We didn't have guns, just a replica sword each, some homemade spears, and two knives. The first stop was a Home Depot for some supplies and another wagon. It was strange, knowing that the world was going to shit, but I was still with the one I loved.....I had allowed myself to get lost in this thought when suddenly Sammy alerted me to a group of deaders that was getting a little too close for my liking. We heard the growl and knew what was coming next. The Howl. Thank god my girlfriend can throw! She threw a knife into its throat and we ran, expecting to hear the Howl at any moment.........

a very well writen story. I enjoyed the fact that you placed it right at the panic peek of the outbreak and not blab on with some boring entry of how great your life once was. As for another blog, you should enter in some survivors .
