Normality

The roads were clear, if roads could have an emotion they would be happy, not a drop of blood for miles.
My dad slowed the truck as we came to a turn, to a farm house, Sean pulled up next to us.
"How does this look?" My dad asked my mom
"I don't know who knows what followed us, or what's inside" My mom said back
"I'll go inside and check it out, if it looks okay I'll park the cars in the garage"
"Alright, but you're not going alone."
"Rich, you're going in, you seem like you can hit hard and you need to get over your fear." Mike said cutting in
"Are you sure that's a good idea, Mike?" Nicole asked "What if he can't handle it."
"I'm doing it" Rich said with a confident voice
Rich grabbed the baseball bat and started to head in after my dad, with nothing but baseball bats and fishing lights from my tackle box.
15 minutes passed and no sounds were heard, then they walked out, and gave us a nod to head in,"It's empty." they both said that the same time.
I stayed outside and stood guard while the cars were being parked in the garage. After getting inside we started to secure the house, boarding up windows and doors, mainly on the lower level. We looked for food and the house was stocked with nonperishable food, but no one was around. .
"We'll need to stay here for the night, if anything happens girls head up to the attic with Mike, Sean, Ned. Rich, Phil, you guys get the shotguns and John and myself will have the .45's, if the shit hits the fan we'll head to the attic too." My dad stated firmly
No words were said after that, everyone had their role and they knew they needed to stick to it.
"Rest while we can, if this place seems safe we'll stay, at least for a while" My mom said taking control
