christmas. what a joke this year. but at least we are grateful to be alive.

i guess the zombies aren't affected by the cold. they seem to be attracted to sources of heat. or is it that they can somehow tell we are inside? can they hear our heartbeats like vampires? or smell us? it seems more and more come each day.

yesterday i watched as our mayor turned zombie was gunned down in the street in front of my house. my neighbor, the neighbor i had screamed and pleaded for help when a zombie tried to break in my backdoor, shot the mayor. it wasn't soon enough because his wife and son were bitten first. he took them back into his house and i screamed down to him from the window not to. they were bitten they will change. but he bolted the door. shortly after midnight i heard screams and gunshots. i don't know what happened. i don't want to know except i need to know if there are zombies in that house.

three weeks ago we watched in horror as my daughter's best friend's house was attacked by zombies. they had let the dog out in the yard and it wasn't long after that the first zombie appeared. i wonder if they would still be alive if it wasn't for that stupid dog. a puppy really. a black lab. almost a year old. it went crazy barking at something. could have been a frog. they have, no had, an 8ft privacy fence. i suppose they thought the dog would be fine behind that fence. as the dog's cries mounted in terror the number of zombies grew. the noise of the dead and the dog was almost deafening after silence for so long. i had to hold my hand over my daughter's mouth to keep her from screaming. i did not want those creatures coming our way. they broke the fence down. the dog screamed. it really screamed. or maybe it was one of the people. there were 12 in that house. the little girl, my daughter's friend, came running out the front door holding her 22month old cousin. she ran towards my house. why she had that baby in her arms i don't know. her brother, 14, ran the other direction. more zombies came. they got the boy first. he didn't scream. the girl and the baby were both screaming and crying. maybe they could have made it if they were quiet. a runner attacked them. the girl and the runner played a horrible game of tug of war with the baby. i covered my daughter's eyes and prayed. the runner won. the girl stood there screaming until more zombies came after her. she took off down the street. i wanted to help her. she was only 8. the police, yes we still have two, and a group of armed hunters arrived in time to take out the zombies. they burned the bodies in the middle of the street. i don't know what happened to the girl.
