Journal Entry #1: Waking Up To A Harsh Reality

I definitely didn't expect this. Zombies! Everywhere! The last thing I remember was being hit by a car, a few months ago. Maybe longer. Who really knows? And, if anyone does know, where are they? I haven't seen a single 'human' since I woke up in the hospital a few days back. Since then I've been on the move, looking through the slew of vehicles as I passed by. I was hoping to find a vehicle with gas, but even then the sound would alert the creatures. I did find a bike though, behind one of those fat food restaurants as I like to call 'em. Didn't have a single ounce of rust on it. Almost brand new. I checked some houses for anything that could help; med kits, melee weapons, guns, food, anything. I found a lot of junk, more than I could count. Then, the last house I checked happened to be the motherload. I could barely believe my eyes! Everything I was looking for! These items were great and all, but no where near what I needed to last me for long. From this homestead, I took a machete, a shoddy handgun with a few mags, a first-aid kit, 6 bottles of painkillers, 10 cans of food, and a large backpack. I easily fit all my goods into it, slung it over my shoulders, and rode as far as my bike would carry me. As they say, all good things come to an end, and my bike had surely met its. Its tires were worn out, the chain broke, and on top of that the handlebars fell off. Leaving my trusty bike behind, I walked along the side of the road and into the nearest city which, thankfully, was within reasonable walking distance. As soon as I entered the city limits I could see the devastation these beasts had caused. Skyscrapers, charred black with smoke; Roads in ruins; and the worst of all was the smell. I had the displeasure of smelling zombies along the way, but no where near this. Pulling my shirt up over my nose, I trekked on, slipping through alleyways as I went. I had no idea where I was going, but I just knew I had to keep moving. Then I heard them. Zed. More than I could handle on my own. I had to duck into a building and fast. I sprinted as fast as I could into the nearest building, only glancing at the fancy lettering on the front. After the zed passed, I realized I was sitting in the dark. I flicked my lighter and immediately knew I was in a hotel. And this was, as the lettering on the front suggested, a fancy hotel. I closed what was left of the front doors and used the couches in the lobby to barricade as best I could. I used my lighter to ignite the candles along the walls and took out my machete, eliminating the threat of zed whenever one was seen. I eventually made my way through the whole first floor of the expansive hotel and had secured it as well. With all the candles lit up, it looked kind of nice. Almost as good as electricity. My next step will be supplying power to the hotel, and after that I need to look for survivors, as well as scout the city. Needless to say, I got a lot of work ahead of me.
