I made my way across my part of the neighborhood, stealthily, and as fast as i could, the whole time keeping an eye out for my girlfriend and the car. I could hear dogs barking all over the area, and the cold was almost unbearable with only my leather jacket to protect me from the night-time chill. you know, the only thing i could think of on my way into town was my own unpreparedness. i had heard all the strange reports on the morning radio talk shows, and the news reports on the 'net, and the warnings on the television. But i never got my head out of my ass.
Up ahead of me about ten yards away were a group of about three zombies, a woman with two male zombies at its sides, lurking aroud the bushes of this really big house. I could tell they were on the hunt, savage growls and moans alerting me to their presence. I looked around, and when i was sure i had a chance to surprise them, i rushed in with my machete, swinging with all my might. I hit the first one on the neck, a fat fucker with ozzing eyes, cutting most of the way through, black pus gushing out of its wound, dropping it to the floor. Its body became inert, but its eyes still searched for me, it jaw still moving as if to bite. The second and third zombies came after me, an attack that came faster than i had expected. I slashed at the second males thin arms, cutting off his right just under the elbow. The third stench, the woman with blood matted hair, circled around to my left and reached its arms out. I was almost caught in its death grip when its head just exploded under the weight of a baseball bat! Behind it, i saw a shadow move with lightning reflexes, ducking over to attack the thin one as well. My reflexes were just as fast, and both of our weapons assaulted it at the same time- i cut it in half at the waist and the bat came in at the head, sending it flying across the back yard almost twenty feet! I was shaking again, the adrenaline pumping.
"Jesus Christ, what the fuck are you doing out here," the other Surviver said. I was surprised to see it was a woman, not because of that simple fact, but because of the strength and speed she had displayed. The look in her eyes said that she had been surviving throught the day and that it had been a living hell, her blood covered sweater telling the story. She then strode up to the zombie heads and smashed them down with her bat. " They can still send messages to each other you know."
" i didnt know that. thanks for the help by the way," i said putting away my blade. " who are you?"
" I asked first but i guess your really new to this so ill start. My name is- well what i go by now- is Luna. Im not really from here, im from Indiana, and i made my my west here to look for my brother. He moved out here a while ago with his bitch of a girlfriend, but i havent heard from him since the OUTBREAK started. Get down!", she said in a loud whisper, as a horde of rotters charged across the street. They didn't see us behind the bushes and i let out a breath without realizing i had even been holding it in.
