I found this on a memory stick on a body, no idea what has happened to who wrote it.

There are around 20 of us held up here, pretty solid place, nothing is
going to get to us but it's a prison, more and more deadheads are turning
up as I type.
Managed to get my laptop hooked up to a satellite phone but don't know how long it will stay online.
If you somehow get this message try to get here or if you are too far away, let us know if anyone else is out there!!!

Can't sleep, its 4.45am but I can hear moans on the wind, don't know if
its in my head or not, going to go check up on the people on watch

Brought in a few more survivors in the early morning today, one of them
is a bit of a worry, he is chatting up the few young girls we have here,
but apparently he has been bragging about his sexual exploits and his
'diseases'
Don't know what to do about him, if we are going to be repopulating the
planet eventually, do we want to carry on sexually transmitted diseases?
August 16, 2008 at 5:26pm
In the short term I have decided to let him stay on his word that he will not touch any of the womenfolk
In the long term I am thinking of getting rid of him, if we are starting
a new world order, we don't want diseases that can be eradicated
Tomorrow I'm starting weapons drill, going to go through the armoury and
see what we can use, i have already seen muskets and cannons and there
is a huge siege engine in the grounds too but we have no gunpowder so
they are all useless
August 16, 2008 at 7:34pm
Ha! managed to grab a lone deadhead, got her tied to a stake in the
grounds, gonna let the kids and young'uns practise with the bows and
crossbows on her tomorrow, try to get the used to the things
August 17, 2008 at 9:06am
Sorted out through the armoury, the place is better than we could ever
imagined! All the muskets and shit are useless at the moment, no
gunpowder. However we have managed to get everyone kitted out in at the
very least, full chain-mail, a personal weapon suited to their
strengths and a stiletto knife for backup
Most of the guys have a longsword/axe/mace and the women have short
swords, the kids are being given halberds and spears to train with so
they can primarily hold the deadfucks at bay while the older guys can
get close and do away with them
Everyone is being taught basic techniques by me and a few other guys
with martial arts experience and I'm holding classes in keeping their
weapons sharp and clean, using cooking oil to keep them rust free at the
moment
Going to get everyone up to speed with holding off enemies with shields
while guys from behind go for the heads with spears or bill-hooks
Don't think the deadfucks will ever, ever get through the gates but eventually people are going to have to go out for supplies
Going to let the kids train with some bows at the captured z-head after dinner, we named it/her Sandra D
August 18, 2008 at 10:19am
Bad day, baaaaaad day.
Sandra D somehow got loose in the night and bit one of the kids. First I
knew about it was the screaming, I haven't heard that sort of scream
since the first day of the outbreak. I thought I had left that sort of
noise before.
When I got there the deadfucks was already down, the kids had taken it
down between them somehow. It was hamstrung and three daggers were stuck
out of it's head.
The bitten kid; Emma, was in a pretty bad way. She hasn't any parents
here but had always been bright and lively. I carried her up to the
battlements and sat and talked to her until she passed away. I don't
know if she came back. When her eyes closed I lifted her little body
over the edge and let it go into the crowd of zombies below. We haven't
anywhere to keep bodies and I don't want her coming back and someone
else having to smash her little head in.
No more capturing deadfucks for fight practise.
August 20, 2008 at 11:17am
The whole group has been pretty shook up with the Emma business. I don't
really know what to do to raise the spirits (no pun intended) of
people. I suppose people nowadays are just going to have to get used to
people getting taken away from them in a flash.
I don't know if this will start to make people not want to get close to
one and other but I can't afford for it to affect the dynamic of the
group; we are in this together and rely on each other, now more than
ever.
Tomorrow or the day after it looks like a group is going to have to go
out into the surrounding area to look for supplies. The food and drinks
in the café are nearly all gone. We have a pretty much unlimited supply
of water due to the wells we have inside the castle grounds, but food
wise, we are down to a few boxes of tinned beans and fruit.
There is a supermarket just beyond the trees to the North; 250 yards at
most. I'm going to take the people who have impressed the most in
training at dawn to see what we can find. Anything tinned is a priority
and also vitamins and medicine. If we can find any seeds for the planned
vegetable fields on the grass area inside the walls next year, then its
a bonus.

Had a change of plan at the last minute.
Me and the rest of the group who could ride, saddled up the horses and
got armoured up. We were going to create a diversion at the south gate
to draw the deadheads away from the west gate, so a foraging party could
get out.
Went pretty well on our side. We charged out into the open fields and
cut down the few deadheads wandering around. The noise of the horses
started bringing the main horse over from the west gate. We charged
towards them and started to pick away at the outskirts of the horde;
taking heads and limbs from the nearest deadheads, giving time for the
supplied group to slip away.
Paul who was on lookout gave a blast on a horn when the supply group was
safely away and into the nearby town. We formed up and trotted back to
the safety of the castle. No injuries to man or horse but a lot of
weapon cleaning to do!
The supply party should be away for a day or so unless they run into
trouble, at which point they will sound on the horns they are carrying
and we will come to their aid.
Couldn't have gone any better from our point of view. Just got our fingers crossed for the supply party's return now.
August 23, 2008 at 5:40pm
Looks like our little 'battle' today brought in a lot more deadheads.
There are about three, four hundred of them outside the walls. Luckily
they seem to only concentrate at either the south gate or the west gate.
Fingers still crossed for the supply party coming in tomorrow sometime.
August 25, 2008 at 11:31am
Just got back from helping the supply group getting back in. We heard
their horns going just after dawn and the lookouts saw smoke rising from
a farmhouse about a mile away from the south gate.
We got the horses ready again and made out of the west gate, cutting through few deadheads stood around there.
We turned south and headed straight for the smoke. There was the supply
group, the farmhouse they were held up in was surrounded by around 50 or
60 deadfucks, with only one door in or out.
Drawn by the noise of our horses, we drew about half of the deadheads
into the open field where we took them out one by one. With half of
their number gone, we dismounted and formed a shield wall and moved
towards the farmhouse. At the same time the supply group broke out and
formed their own shield wall behind the zombie group. The deadheads who
were left over from the first attack went down pretty fast, falling over
their own ''dead'' and leaving them open to a quick dispatch by the
second line's spears.
Ideally the supply group would have gotten back without us having to
risk the horses but at least no one got hurt. I don't see us getting
back from these attack without injuries anymore, the number of deadfucks
around the walls is increasing every day.
Everyone is getting cleaned off before we take inventory of what the supply group managed to bring back.
August 31, 2008 at 9:18am
OK took an inventory of what the supply group managed to find and bring back:
-huge quantity of dried pasta. 75% of the haul was made up of this.
-aspirin x 100 packets
-salt x 5 kg bags
-sugar x 2 kg bags
-basic antibiotics x 30 packs
-Multi vitamins x 300 bottles
-assorted chocolate bars x 200
-cigarettes x 15 cartons
-cigars x 20 boxes
-tinned fruit (assorted) x 200
-soap x 50 bars
-vodka x 5 bottles
-rum x 3 bottles
-scotch x 8 bottles
-batteries (AA,AAA) x 15 packs each
-seeds (potato, peas, tomato, lettuce, turnip, rhubarb)
A great haul, with most of the things we needed found. No firearms were
found and not much medicine unfortunately. Next month hopefully.
