It seems like a content-only site is pretty much going to happen now and it is more a matter of execution. I say why not? The downside is maybe a small niche are inconvenienced a bit having to juggle back and forth and maybe neglect one or the other. The upside would be adding some much needed de-cluttering and giving the work a place to stand on its own legs. I have little doubt that the social network and finished projects can live in harmony in two places.
A project that is not chose for inclusion might make the creator a little bummed out, but the community here is awesome. It gives every submission a tangible goal and would probably promote more collaboration and constructive feedback. You might not win a contest, but around here second, third...fifth place are still be excellent work worthy of being featured.

I like the idea of the percent complete gauge. I've been really lagging on a couple of LZ projects and need to get off my ass and finish them.

Congrats, Quinn on the epic win!

The map is a great idea. The linear timeline in itself would help to keep people up to speed because they could see when what happened, and what has happened as a whole, which would allow them the freedom to better gauge their own contributions. Also, the submissions that are purely sound oriented would be great, because besides the ones of us that don't have the resources to film well, some of us just aren't proficient enough at it to try. I think the written contributions should definitely take on a more active role in the project itself; some of the best content is written. Site #2 would be the perfect place for that to happen.

Second site sounds like a great idea. I like the world map too. But since you said you wanted more linear, my suggestion is that you:
Make the homepage for second site start with official LZ vids, and a map to click.
1. Do the map. Great idea, stays organized by location first off.
2. Click location, choose picture, videos, ect.
3. Click choice, (videos for example) Have all the videos organized by time, newest at the top, oldest at the bottom. And unknown times could be given a separate lis to the side or under the oldest videos, labeled "Unknown", or "Unspecified Date"

i definitely think the world map is a GREAT idea.
along with the second site.
the second site should have videos, pictures and all that posted on a timeline. it should also include the world map showing whats going on where, where this video was shot. things like that.
a weekly update informing us where we are at on the project would be great, also included on the update should be where we are currently at in the Zombie full world we have all created.
Also what would be a cool idea is to have members upload a video of there status in the zombie world once a week.

I think some sort of gauge as to how far along the project is is a good idea, maybe you could break it down to the percentage of video, photo, writings you have/need would keep people up to speed. I'm not sure if a deadline for when you will stop recieving submissions would be great; people who join the site late on may see it and not bother trying to come up with anything. I wonder whether having subsmissions of purely sound eg. answering phone messages, radio transmissions, phone conversations could help as a lot of us don't have the resources or ability to film realistic videos for the documentary. Maybe you could use them while you show a montage of photos or something. I see on this page there is a Lost Zombies hotline that is toll free (I'm in UK, I guess I'd prob get charged) and I think that's a great idea, and would love to see more similar things so I could contribute.
