It started out just like all the other days that summer. My parents had already left for work so I was home alone as usual. I casualy got up, got dressed, then walked downstairs to eat breakfeast. I made myself a bowl of Captain Crunch then went into the living room to watch Tv. I sat down in the lounge chair and fliped on the Tv. I started eating my cereal but on the Tv I noticed that on every channel it was the same thing "STAY TUNED FOR FURTHER INFORMATION". It just kept going across the screen and I thought to myself this is odd I wonder if there has been another terrorist attack. So I finished my bowl of cereal waiting for "FURTHER INFORMATION" but none came.
So I decided I would walk down the road to the gas station to see if they knew what was going on. I walked out into the kitchen and put my bowl into the dish washer then slid on my shoes. I walked out the back door and into the driveway. I stopped for a moment because i could hear sirens in the distance but there was absolutley no traffic passing my house. Now this was odd considering I live on Rte. 28 on the way to Cooperstown. The road was usualy packed with cars full of turists going to the Baseball Hall of Fame. This is when I realized somthing wasnt right. I walked to The end of my driveway and began walking to the gas station.
I walked about 8 feet when I looked up the road to see that there was an ambulance crashed on its side on the shoulder of the road next to the gas station. I kept looking and there were blood stains on one of the windows of the gas staion. I looked across the street of the gas station at the post office. There was a State Trooper car parked in front of the post office. The post office door was wide open and I could see what looked like a leg sticking out of the doorway.
I walked the 75 or so yards down the road to the trooper car. Its door had been left open and I could see the officers Remmington 870 inside. I walked a little closer to the door of the post office and I could see a man crouched over the troopers body. I said "Sir could you tell me what the hell is going on" and I watched as the man turned his skin was greyed and he had the entire right side of his face chewed off. I looked down at the trooper to see that this thing had been devouring his inards. The thing that had once been a man stood up and let out the most disturbing noise I have ever heard. It was a low moan and he reached his arms up to try and grab me. his hands were covered in blood and one of the still clenched the troopers intestine.
It started shambling towards me as I noticed several gunshots in its chest. I turned around and saw there were several more of the creatures stumbling out of the gas station. There were a few that once were paramedics trying to claw there way out of the ambulance. They were all moaning with there arms raised at me stumbling forward at me. Without thinking I grabbed the 870 out of the State Trooper car. I had watched a few zombie movies before so I knew to shoot them in the head. I'm a farm boy so I've had plenty of experiance with guns. I pumped i shell into the chamber and started running back to my house. About halfway there I saw Mr. Johnston shambling towards me. He to had been infected as he was shambling at me moaning and missing his left arm. He shambled into my way so I flipped off the safety and blew his head off. It popped like a cherry and blood and brain matter splattered everywhere. I sprinted into my driveway and looked back down the road.
I had about 30 of them following me it seems I had attracted quite a crowd. I ran back in my house and I knew there wasnt much time so I got all the supplies i could upstairs in the spair bedroom. I already had all the guns and ammo in my room since I'm the only one in my family who hunts. I remembered how in alot of zombie movies the people barricaded the downstairs of their house. I also remembered how those people got eaten. So I ran out into the workshop and got the chainsaw, axe, pick-axe, sledgehammer, and can of gas. I went back inside and got upstairs then destoyed the staircase. I finished it just in time because as soon as I got done i heard the front door give out. I loaded all of my guns and counted how much amunition I had. I had 150 22.cal hollow point bullets, 167 various 12ga. shells, 24 16ga. shells, 53 410ga. shells, 8 20ga. shells and 16 30-30 rounds.
I had about a week and a half's worth of supplies. I made sure the zombies couldn’t clime upstairs then I remembered my animals. I wasnt worried about my chickens because they could easily run away but my goats were in a pen. Not wanting to waste my 30-30 I got my blot action 22 and climbed out a window onto the roof of the backroom. The zombies that wernt in the house were trying to get into the goat pen so I took aim with the 22 and shot one of the zombies. I thought "O boy 1 down 16 to go." I would shoot the zombie and only know I hit it because it would fall to the ground. The puny 22 round would puncture the skull and bounce around inside. After I dispatched those zombies I crawled inside and dispatched the zombies inside my house. I decided to try and call my parents it was getting late and they still wernt home. Of course my cell phone didnt work I mean none of the phones in the house worked. I eventualy fell asleep with my Remington 11-87 in hand....
