First I must note that the first series of posts will be a set of preparation notes. Later on I will get into what to do if you are caught off guard by the outbreak, but since that has not happened as of 10:15 pm I will continue to post preparatory measures that I think will at least keep you alive for a while...

Defending yourself against the undead hordes is not an easy task. Loud noises, lights, or even smells may draw the undead to your position. In my last post I noted that it is way easier to survive in a rural area. A house in the middle of nowhere would be ideal, but we all don't have that luxury.

First and foremost you must reinforce all windows and doors, aside from your emergency exits. There exists some plastic lining that makes your windows near impenitrable. Aside from a mass of zombies causing a wall to collapse or zeds learning to use axes and the like this should suffice, as long as your windows are not more than 20 or so years old. If that is the case you will need to cover your windows Night of the Living Dead style with as many boards as you can find. Having a house with a fence would be ideal as well so you have at least some space that is concealed from eye level.

Having an emergeny exit is essential. Too many times people will make the msitake of being trapped in a corner with no escape.

There are multiple reasons to have a place away from everything but one big one in particular is that if you need to shoot something you have a better chance of not being heard by the undead or the living looking to steal your food and weapons.

You may find it useful to have 2 safehouses. One you live in and where you keep your main getaway vehicle. The other to use as a stash spot where it won't be a big deal if a zombie stumbles inside because you already know to hide your food and extra weapons. This would be the ideal situation because if you get swarmed at your main residence, you can still take your getaway vehicle to spot 2 and have time to think and pack up if necessary.

Unfortunately it is going to be pretty miserable in the time of zombies. You will not get to shower much if at all and you may have to be on the run constantly if you are ill prepared. This next part may sound strange but bear with me. One of the best zombie deterrent suits would be tight leather and covered with vasoline... (no homo). Imagine for a second trying to bite or even keep ahold of someone wrigling like their life is in danger and trying to hold onto them with your bare hands if they were wearing slippery leather... this may not be the best combination but if you can think of one better please reply to this post.

At this point we must again choose a path from the possibilities presented. First off if humans can be infected with whatever the heck turns them to zombies, then what about other animals, or worse yet mosquitos!?! If mosquitos can carry the infection without dying immediately then we are screwed and there is no more need to post anything. Even if animals can be infected we are still screwed. Fish as well? No chance of survival.

So now we must assume that only humans can get the virus or that non-humans die instantly if infected.

That is all for this post for now. My next post will cover weapons :)
