so let me start out in October of 2007 I was working at a local hospital. My position at the hospital is working the Lab. I process blood, bodily fluids and solids, body parts run through my department so we can process them and bring them to the hospital pathologist. [if you don't know medical hospital terms then just bare with me or google it. lol] When the blood runs through my department iit usually comes in viles. Lately we have been having a increase of patients coming into our hospital, let me tell you 6 floors is not enough space for 3 counties. Greene, Columbia, Dutchess NY. Each town has umm about a few hundred or a thousand. ANYWAY back to the blood. When we went to process the blood... The machines we run them through in hematology, chemistry and even bloodbank the computers kept saying "error" to certain tests. In some viles when we ran a cell count.. which shows how many white blood cells one has... the test said 0. not one white cell found... I am just a lab tech. I never understood those machines because i was never trained to read them. But i heard whispers from my fellow coworkers that "somethings not right" "this isn't natural" "we may need to call someone on this" "this is a disease?"
so long story short when i was clocking out from my shift i heard over the announcements "dr. rush! dr. rush to the 3rd floor" "dr strong dr strong. to the 3rd floor" rush = urgent need a doctor to a patient. dr strong = in need of security or a hostile patient. tired smart ashley says "fuck it" and heads out through the parking garage and wanders over to my car. STOKED that it waas a friday night and i was gonna get my party on. look at my job and I watched someone come flying out of the 3rd story window and crashed down on the concrete. then as i rolledd my window down you heard screams pour out of my job. iI left. i'm tired. i'm fustrated. i'm scared. peace.
I ran home and the streets were empty.
my family was sitting by the tv when i came home.
we watched.
we waited.
we saw what was going on around the world.
"Disease"
thats all that it was known as in the beginning. "The Disease" noone had an answer and noone knew what was going on. The news told us to board up our windows. Take shelter. Take cover. the news said "the dead come back to life" so i thought... "oh shit. Dawn of the Dead is really happening" common sense tells you alot of things at that point in time. like what you need. "guns. amo. barriers. how to shoot. stay off the mainland"
long story short. my family was eaten.
I ran. I climbed. I hid.
when you know mountainous territory like the back of your hand espically growing up in the Catskill Mountains it becomes an advantage. you know what to eat. where to go. zombies aren't that smart to know how to climb rocks. zombies will stay in populated areas. some will stray to the woods but you just gotta post up in trees.
anyway i got as far as albany just running through the trees. I found a lookout on a mountain and saw that the capital of NY is destroyed. The New York State thruway... bad idea. thousands were swarming all over that. best route. backroads. yeah they take longer to get anywhere but backroads.
eventually i was rescued. a heli flew right over me and dropped in before a few zombies chowwed down. they brought me to a base. fed me. clothed me. and decided to train me as a better fighter. gave me my own few guns and knives. I guess in a time like this rules will be broken. Why give rules when your all about to die? fuck it. give guns and prepare for the worst. the more heads the better.
but i heard stories through fellow soldiers that a few basses were overrun. good thing was I was up in buffalo.. Us coast gaurd marine safety. it was at the edge of the water. and a great escape route by boat if we got run over. gaurded heavily and baricaded perfectly. we help up for about a month and a half. but the zombies started to stop... and as they started to stop buffalos temperature started to drop. winter was coming. turns out the zombies freeze when it's really cold. we had some ideas about leaving to antartica or to alaska. or to the north pole.
the base got in contact with people in the north and they said they were zombie free.so the base started shipping people out. women and children first. yes their were children at our base. parents who have been killed and turned on their own flesh and blood. i was about the 3rd group to go up to the higher parts of Greenland.
when i got to greenland i thought i was free of all danger...... when i got to the greenland base.. their was sickk people everywhere. flown in from all over the world. my first instinct was to leave... but then again i decided to stay. i ran to find whoever was in charge. i kept screaming.. "these people are infected" it seems like people are oblivious to danger when they feel they are free of dangeer...
When i was calling my old base noone seemed to answer. it was empty. the phone kept ringing and ringing and static. when the last helicopter flew in... only 3 people were in it. "the base was overrun. everyone is dead" my reply was "weree gonna be dead soon. our new base is holding all the infected"
we mapped out a few more bases real quick and refuled. we left and flew over the queen elizabeth islands and stayed in prudhoe bay in Alaska. Greenland base was never heard from again. months went by in alaska. lived off of the fish and stayed warm in our cabins. we heard nothing from the outside world. silence. the fellow towns and eskimos all decided to move to one location so the population can stay together. we stayed in 6months of darkness. [scariest of times] but were comforted with the fact that zombies can't walk in negative 10 degrees. stocked up on food we went on ever day hoping for the best...
When the light started showing again everything was still normal. so their we stayed. untill one day helicopters came to prudhoe bay. part of the american govt. and gave us an update. "the world is at the ends of it days" they even talked about the seas flooded with swimming zombies and taking some of our submarines down. must of climbed through the torpedo shoot. they told us that alaska antartica and the northpole were the safest placces.
but then they told our community that since we were the last of communities and large groups of people... they needed our women. the towns people rebelled i even spat in some higher up guys face... when their is no government left. their is no authority. their is no law. people take what they want at this point. and those soilders did. luckily when we were outside dealing with our issue i had a big burley coat on and kind of looked like a dude. aviators. septum peircing. gages. and short hair. the soilders never approached me.
my crew of people and i decided to leave and move to another part of alaska. still don't kno the name. because we found it the best isolated spot. if you wanna join our little society then we will code it to you. but head to alaska. safety is here.
