CLICK is not the sound you want hear when you have 2 zeds in between you and the door.Funny how in life threatning situations your minds perception of time slows to a crawl,as soon as i heard the click of the hammer on an empty chamber i cursed myself for not swapping the mag with only two rounds left for the full mag that was on my belt.As soon as opened the door i saw the two walking corpses and took them both out with head shots.BOOM BOOM the empty room bounced the sound of its high walls back and forth, when suddenly a door from a side office swings open and two more zeds are running at me.Click is all i hear,RELOAD YOU IDIOT my mind screams RELOAD AND DONT BE A FUMBLE FINGERS.I hit the mag release as i draw the fresh mag from my waist and slamm it home just as the empty mag falls to the ground,i push the slide release lever down allowing the gun to strip a round from the mag and drive it into the chamber.I think to myself that was a quick reload, the two former empolyees of the store are still 8 feet away ,my mind shuts my hearing off as i pull the trigger and both fall after a 230 grain .45 caliber bullet slams into their heads.A red cloud seems to hang in the air but quickly falls. What seemed like forever was only 4 seconds from the time i opened the door to realizing the threat, taking them all out and holstering my para-ordanance45.Getting my hearing back i could now hear the loud ringing in my ears that i knew would stay with me all night. As i give the all clear signal over the radio the rest of the crew comes in the door.We found just what we needed as we walked into the backroom. Thank god, someone mumbles,DO YOU REALLY THINK HE REALLY EXISTS AFTER ALL THIS HAS HAPPENED i ask angrily. He says nothing as we start to load our cargo into the old company truck as four members of our group took up covering positions around the truck.Water precious water, was what we came for and we found plenty in the storeroom.Stacked high in the longbed the 5 gallon bottles were refills for the office buildings downtown. The stink of death was getting stronger and the moans of the walking dead were getting louder, they were about 2 blocks away and moving in our direction. With about 90 bottles in the bed of the old crew cab we had plenty for now,the human body can survive almost a month without food eating its own fat reserve but only 3 or 4 days without water.Did that make us all zombies?? BAM BAM...BAMBAMBAM the sound of gunfire pulls me back to reality,3 runners were in the group coming towards us.Runners were what we called zombies that had been bitten and turned less than two weeks before, they were the most dangerous because they could still run and they didnt moan when they saw you they just attacked. After 12 -14 days they slowed to a slow walk and started to moan when they saw a human, maybe their brains were decomposing faster than their bodies and it was just primal instinct that kept them going we wern't sure yet we needed to run more tests on the ones we had taken to study.BAM BAM, the group of shufflers was getting closer, they were slow but still dangerous in large numbers like these. I got on the radio and told everybody it was time to go.There was 12 in our group,5 got in the crew cab with the water,3 got in my chevy tahoe in the rear position, me and three others got in the bright orange snowplow in the lead position.Howie was driving with me and the two others in the bed providing cover, but with this monster under us we didn't really have a problem going over or thru anything with that big steel plow pushing everything aside.20 uneventful minutes later we got back to our castle. As we unloaded our water i figured we were set for a couple of days and we could finally relax if only for a few hours.....
