It had been around 4 days when Emily and Brandon were taken in. Everything was going smoothly; they were slowly becoming a member of our society. Then it started, sometime, around 2 A.M., Brandon had gone missing. A frantic search was proving fruitless, so I organized several search parties and dispatched them to search a predetermined area of the camp. It started with a sighting, noted on the radio, and then it became a visual, a zombie, a child zombie. It had eluded the people who first saw it. Upon hearing this i stepped up the search, calling in all available parties to arm up and search. Then a scream over the radio followed by silence, my worst nightmares had come to become real. I sent a 4 man team to assist and waited for a report. The boy was gone, but the person that found him was not, only after a moment’s hesitation, they shot him. The boy was nowhere to be found until a woman reported a sighting near the houses. All search parties in the immediate vicinity performed a thorough search until they saw a horrifying sight. Several families were already dead and then they were killed again. They found the boy feasting on another child and killed him with the rage that had been building in them. The entire event lasted around 2 hours, and had left 49 people dead, our highest casualty count yet. Everyone was locked down inside our warehouse until daylight after a 100% search was conducted.
Emily was found trying to escape, her bag full of food, water, and a 9mm with 4 spare clips. We detained her, probably more abusive than her demeanor required. After around an hour of a grueling interrogation she had finally admitted to her deceptions. Her boy was bit, a minor bite, however, it became infected, and then she had found our base. This information had started the civil war I hoped would never have happened. People were outside screaming for her head, their numbers had increased dramatically since our meeting less than a week ago. It's understandable, people lost their husbands, wives, children, however I must maintain the peace or we will surely perish.
I kept her in protective custody as my inner circle deliberated. We had thought that the guards we picked could be trusted. I never learned this until later; however, the guards had sympathized with the people, and let them in as long as they left no marks. Poor Emily, she was raped, beaten, and who knows what other things had happened. After returning from our deliberation, we had decided to give her a small portion of supplies and a melee weapon, and send her on her way. She would surely be killed if she was kept here, so I personally escorted her outside the gate.
